Hi ,

I had 2 different neuros treat my MS differently. One would tell

me to get on steroids right away, then the other said to wait it out.

What steroids do is only to quicken your recovery time than just waiting it out.

I have taken steroids many, many, many times. I finally just decided

not to take them....as the steroids made me very grumpy LOL (Not ME) he he

Anyway, my choice was not to take them anymore. Yes, the steroids did

help me recover quicker but that is it....it does not slow any progression whether you take

the steroids or not, ONLY to recover quicker from you exacerbation.

Have a great day

-- Remind me...exacerbations...when do you go in?

Why when we have an exacerbation do we need to get to the neuro so quickly to be put on the high dose steroids....? It was my thought at one time that I could wait it OUT...and rest, and lose the stress, and let it all go away...but the PA at my neuro's office said that the steroids stop the inflammation and the damage that can occur if you are treated quickly...? Is that your personal experience any of you? I guess the reason I am asking is because my MD asked me why I don't wait it out. I used to wait it out when the symptoms were not so extreme when they changed, then I was so scared I was in the neuro's office fast. I am 10 months in remission right now, knock on wood. Of course, I am on a dex-pak of prednisone to treat an infection that is being stubborn in my sinuses...and as a bonus, I get the anti-inflammatory benefits for the MS of course. I'm a little relieved to not have the IV in my arm. I didn't want to get that bad. Any help on this...I can see the newbies are curious too. I'm 18 years with this bug, and I still feel like everything about this disease is a mystery. MY MD feels that way too. He is baffled by the nervous system and glad he doesn't have to treat me for that often.
