Guest guest Posted July 3, 2003 Report Share Posted July 3, 2003 Kat, I'm assuming you mean your husband doesn't understand your invisible illness. His reaction is not unusual. I have struggled with my family for years before they realized that I wasn't just being ornery when all of a sudden I couldn't go any further with what I was doing. For example, today I slept a little late but when I got up, I felt pretty good and thought I would tackle a couple of small jobs. I then remembered that I had an appt. for a hair cut so I got ready for that. I came home an hour later, made a couple of phone calls, then my husband wanted to play a game of double solitaire. All of a sudden I was feeling dizzy and weak and came in to lie down. My husband still said, aren't you going to do so and so? This is from a man whom I have been married to for 36 years. He just forgets sometimes that my feelings change so rapidly from moment to moment. There is a really good article somewhere on the Net (I'll see if I can fing it) that approaches this problem of the family or husband that doesn't understand our illnesses. All I can recommend is do what doesn't make you feel worse when you can, then rest. Your husband is going to have to learn to be a bit more understanding. Maybe your doctor should talk to him and fill him in on what to expect with your health. I'm sure he loves you very much but like you've probably heard Christy mention several times...Ronnie gets so upset because he can't fix it. You can learn how better to accept him & the differences between you; & you need to learn to live with your illness yourself. There's 2 of us here and I'm not the only one making the mess. So if he doesn't help then I don't worry about it.
