Guest guest
Dear Forum, This is in relation to respected Health minister’s statement on NACO as an organization without vision. But a number of questions will be automatically triggered off from this bold and revolutionary comment. 1) Why Ministry of H & FW discovered this fact so late? 2) Was this very thought of the Health minister politically driven or made out of sheer despair? 3) Why public health specialists, epidemiologists and medical professionals are in the back seat in the war against AIDS in India? 4) Why top leaders of NACO and most of the SACS of India are selected from a pool of senior administrative cadres when these people are absolutely ignorant of epidemiology and social impact of HIV in the country and state specific context? 5) Why public health and epidemiology are remaining severely neglected as subjects in the medical curriculum in a country which can be very well fit into the category of a ‘natural public health laboratory’ with the high prevalence of most of the communicable and non communicable diseases so far discovered globally 6) Why the public health system of the country are still in a shambles even after long 58 years of independence where there is so much of hue and cry over the issue of HIV mainstreaming? I strongly believe the vision is not only missing with NACO but with many other Govt and Non Govt organizations operational on Indian soil. Dr Ramados being a medical professional made a correct diagnosis at a time while the disease has already metastasized deep into the whole system of public healthcare. It is time to see how he treats it. All the best, Dr Minister Regards Dr Nilim Gera Gangopadhyay Gujrat, India E-mail: <nilim_g4@...>
