Guest guest
I have afib and am on coumadin and my cardiologist said CoQ10 is ok to take. I thought I had seen a post here saying CoQ10 is a blood thinner. I am also concerned cause my son has lower GI obscure bleeding of an unknown source. He's really weak right now and I wonder if the CoQ10 he's been taking 100mg 3 x day is making it worst. I know this is off subject but does anyone know of a site like this for GI bleeding? My son is 33 and has suffered with this since age 16 - doctors can never find out the cause - right now he is under a lot of stress starting a new business and he is so weak but doesn't want to go back to the doctor cause it seems they have nothing to offer except transfusions which he tries to avoid - he has had transfusions 3 times during hospitalization over the years. Sorry for the off topic question but any response will be greatly appreciated. Fred
Guest guest
Fred, I searched the web and found conflicting stuff about CoQ10 and whether it is a coagulant or anti-coagulant. Just my two cents, but I would discontinue unnecessary meds (being careful about withdrawal effects -see the docs) in case they were responsible for the problem. Have the docs done a full endoscopy and colonoscopy on your son to determine the source of the bleeding? I think there may be treatments available for anemia, which is what I am guessing is causing his weakness, other than transfusions. I am thinking this is a case where a better doc might be in order. Guest guest
Thanks Trudy, Yes, they have done all the tests, but can never find the source of bleeding. We are looking into the new capsule endoscope, a small camera in a capsule. I've searched for a support site but I not found one for those with bleeding of a unknown soource. Guest guest
Hi Fred, I can only respond to the CoQ10 question and only from personal experience. The reason for my taking it is to support and strengthen the heart. Initially I had a somewhat negative reaction that lead me to restart at a lowered dose and gradually increase the amount. The intake of CoQ10 showed a reduction in my INR#'s, which would indicate that it clots rather than thins the blood. I believe CoQ10 in combination with the meds I am taking helped me regain the strength of my heart. / > I have afib and am on coumadin and my cardiologist said CoQ10 is ok to > take. I was skeptical of this diet for a long time, but finally decided to try it. I can find nothing particularly radical about these food recommendations, and I feel better following them. It probably wouldn't hurt to take a look. Tom Cohrs
