Kim,

I think I've seen increase in sz when increasing proteins.

We are not on a slant, but I have tried to increase slightly

twice and given up. I don't know whether there could have

been other reasons. My son is on 1g/kilo body wt now.

Re the nocturnal sz was Grant weaned of Depakote recently?

Hello everyone,

I know protein amounts vary with each child and that some places

go with 1 g

of protein per kilogram of body weight. Has anyone had a

problem with too

much of a protein slant and once you reduced it you saw better

results??

Grant is on 1.2 g protein per kilo and I think it is too

much. He continues

to have multiple nocturnal seizures. Any advice on protein

numbers would be

helpful.

Thank you

kim

Saro:

Yes, we took his Depakote down approx. 20%. We're unsure if his daytime

seizures that have reoccurred recently are withdrawal related or that he

needs to have a higher level of Depakote from where he's at currently to

eliminate " awake " episodes.

Tonight we reduced his protein to 1.1g/Kg per the dieticians ok to adjust.

Hi SAro,

sorry it has taken me so long to write back but thankyou for your protien

slant theory with Rohan. I brought Grant down to 1.1g/kg of body weight as

of this mrning so maybe I will see some changes for the good. I am convinced

I am my own worst enemy as I am very quick to change the ratio if I do not

see results fast enough. Last month there were many changes from calorie

adjustments to ratio drops as there have been for the last few months as I

have panicked. Yes a 20% depakote drop due to liver problems and I got rid

of zonisamide 10 days ago so alot has happened to his little body recently.

Faye gave me great advice and that was to stay put and see how things play

out. Have a great day and thanks for the support.

Kim,

We also had daytime sz from withdrawing Depakote

mainly on the 3-4 and 10th day after a drop in dose.

Towards the latter part of the wean, the withdrawals

were mainly at night.

Once we finished with the dep, Rohan's sz became daytime

ones. Then after four months he started nights sz again. I still

think there is some dep still hanging around after all this time.

These night sz were tailing off, but his dr. insisted on trying

10mg of Frisium to get rid of them and a few 1-2 sec sz he

has during the day, so now things are not so clear.

Could you perhaps not reduce any more meds and hang on to

see if things settle down. We reduced the dose every two weeks

but sometimes waited longer between drops. Once we put back

the amount reduced and waited for the sz to stop before going

on. It was frustrating and hard. Dropping the ratio helped us.

Some have had withdrawals eased by using flax oil.

If the sz stop after a few days they are withdrawals.

Hope this is the case for you.
