NACO is organising a National Conference on Research in HIV/AIDS in

New Delhi from January 10-13, 2006. The Conference is being

organised to take stock of the existing and ongoing research in the

country and to stimulate new thinking. The submission and discussion

of concept notes for new and proposed research would be encouraged.

The focus on the presentation and sharing of research work will be

in the areas of communication, bio-medical areas and social aspects.

The conference would also provide a platform to gain new insights

regarding scientific aspects from the field in the realm of care and

prevention. Thus, the conference would share useful information and

would bring forth new ideas on cutting edge research.

For further information regarding the Conference, please log on to

Dear FORUM,

This message ref; Dr Gilada's posting on NACO Research Conference.

Dr. Gilad is right. NACO RESEARCH CONFERENCE is highly disorganised and full of

mindless clutter just like its official website!!!

From the very beginning the Conference is jinxed: First the dates chosen

originally for the Conference clashed with two festivals widely celebrated in

entire India. Obviously, the dates had to be changed. Then the last DG Dr

Qureshi had to leave as the data given by the NACO under him showed that the

HIV/AIDS is now far far less as regards prevalence rates!!!

Many researchers, grass root workers, and public organizations/CSOs did register

their vehement disagreement and doubted the statistical manipulations apparent

in the record itself maintained by NACO itself!!!

Then, the Union Minister of H & FW, Dr A Ramados did publicly express his deep

disillusionment with the way NACO acted in all these years and terned the NACO

as inefficient and useless.

The website was made when Dr Qureshi was at the helm of affair hence the later

developments were not updated and corrected. That seems to be reason why you

find anomalies and funny links at the website of the Confernce.

I have also found the response of the Secretariat far from satisfactory, to say

the least. They took so much time and did so little. In a word the response is

unprofessional and the entire job is definitely handled by people with

non-clinicalbackground & even by non-medicos who are only too happy to

emphasize more on sociology, philosophy, psychology and media studies in so far

as these are concerned with the HIV/AIDS and research [!!!] regarding these

subjects.

A quick look at the KEY WORDS officially given by the website for the authors

reveals much!!!

With regards,

Sincerely

Dr S TARIQ WALI
