Our National Organization VOR (Voices of the Retarded) was instrumental in having this language inserted into this Bill of Rights Act and can you believe it did not exist until then. With this knowledge we can now put forth a firmer stance and demands regarding what we deem best as having those future safe/desirable living issue addressed and with the quality of life as deemed best by Families. This should be a wake up call to our Policy Makers and Legislators. Read on: From: Tami Hopp JD, Exec. Director of VOR writes to us: The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, 42 U.S.C. §2001©(3) (2000). © POLICY. -It is the policy of the United States that all pro-grams, projects, and activities receiving assistance under this title shall be carried out in a manner consistent with the principles that- * * * (3) individuals with developmental disabilities and their families are the primary decision makers regarding the services and supports such individuals and their families receive, including regarding choosing where the individuals live from available options, and play decision-making roles in policies and programs that affect the lives of such individuals and their families.
