Dear All,

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) an International NGO with headquarters at

Baltimore, U.S.A has presence in 107 countries and work on issues of education,

health, emergency response, peace building, women empowerment and disaster

preparedness, HIV/AIDS and other developmental issues. The national office is

based in New Delhi, with 12 state offices across the country.

CRS Andhra Pradesh has been working on issues of child labor, HIV/AIDS,

Trafficking and Disaster preparedness and response through 531 NGOs spread

across all the districts of Andhra Pradesh. We support these partners both

financially and technically as well as CRS also supports children in formal

schools, orphans, HIV AIDS affected and infected persons, pregnant mothers

through its food program.

Communerating Child Rights Convention (CRC-India has pledged to this

declaration in the year 1992) week, which is observed every year from 14th to

20th November 2005 CRS/Andhra Pradesh, has launched a mobile awareness campaign

where in children (selected from one of the intervention area-slums) using the

media of street play will be creating awareness and sensitize the public of the

twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on the rights of children.

The main objective of the campaign is to sensitize and create awareness amongst

the people of the twin cities which is considered to be a transit point for

trafficking of young boys/girls, high number of OVC etc.

The play revolves around three issues of child labour, child trafficking

(sexual, camel jockeys etc) and children infected/affected with HIV/AIDS and

their four broad rights of

1. Right to Survival 2.Right to Development 3.Right to Protection 4.Right to

Participation.

A DCM van customized as a mobile stage goes around the twin cities anchors

itself at select points and through the performance of these young children on a

prerecorded audio storyline. The storyline has been developed on day to day

realities, using very easily understandable language with catchy messages.

Till date 6 six shows have been conducted (daily 2 shows) reaching out to

350-400 people per show, the shows will continue till 20th November 2005.

Regards,

T.N.Chetan Pillay
