Hi ,

I hope your get together goes well too. I live in Toronto, Canada and we are

only about an hour drive from Niagara on the Lake. The area is known mainly for

Niagara Falls but it's pretty historic there too. The Americans got their butts

kicked in the area when they tried to invade Canada during the War of 1812. The

pre-Canadians (Canada was not actually formed until 1867) probably couldn't have

done it without some Brit help.

Hi Marnie

Whereabouts In Canada are you - we have friends in Niagara on the Lake.

Not sure what you know about me from H but I used to run the support

group for Nf2ers until it grew too big for me to manage. we had 50 members

and I used to write to most of them be hand as they didn't have computers-

quite a task.

Now I help edit a newsletter which is circulated to 150 members and their

families.

I also help arrange the annual conference - we call it a get together - it's

less formal. next one starts in 4 days so busy at the moment. It's a

mixture of stuff, we always have some sort of specialist, this year its a

neurologist speaking about spinal tumours and a geneticist to talk about

that and what research is happening if any.

I'm in charge of entertainment and making sure everyone has fun -

considering when I could hear I was very shy, it's quite a feat that I can

now get up in front of 60 or so people and not bat an eyelid. Some how

deafness has made me more confident - strange?

I also organise a local group, we have meetings and outings and sponsored

this and that's. we're all great friends now and get on very well.

Shame you have nothing similar where you are- it really helps you to cope.
