Guest guest
By the way the idea of us going back to communism is the most ridiculous idea you conservatives have these days. Guest guest
This healthcare reform IS socialism. People don’t realize that socialism is a pre-cursor to communism. The founding fathers fought to free America from socialism. Here is a good explanation of how a free country ends up in communism: " Every time we talk about these taxes we get around to the idea of 'from each according to his capacity and to each according to his needs'. That's socialism. It's written into the Communist Manifesto. Maybe we ought to see that every person who gets a tax return receives a copy of the Communist Manifesto with it so he can see what's happening to him. " —T. s America used to fight against any root of communism to keep it from taking root here. Now people just want to deny the possibility. Maybe we ought coin a term “communism deniersâ€. And speaking of how the founding fathers actually thought: " If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands, which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen! " - Quoteworthy: “We can’t expect the American people to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism.†Soviet dictator Nikita Khrushchev speaking of Roosevelt’s “New Deal†paradigm shift. Guest guest
Ay Bendito, Yomari, at least now we understand each other. I just read this post when scrolling to the bottom of 's response before deleting it glad I found this. I can fully understand that you and I come from completely opposite sides of the political and philosophical spectrum. I'm so far to the right that I'm considered an anarchist at times. I usually keep quiet about my opinions, however, I believe that those of us in healthcare, including RDs, must not only read and listen to what's going on, but be free to discuss it and campaign peacefully and in an orderly manner for our beliefs. Political discussions affecting not only our own healthcare and that of our families, but also our livelihood and potential future income, must be discussed, and these forums are an appropriate medium for having those discussions. I'm glad you didn't go in and unsubscribe. I hope that you continue to participate in our comments and debates. Everyone deserves to be heard, and everyone deserves to be able to learn both sides (actually all sides, bc there are people whose opinions are right in the middle of ours, and that's OK too). Guest guest
I really hate how these discussions always get political, but anyway...I work in a field that is directly covered by medicare and have not seen any ill affects from electronic charting. I think ppl get unnecessarily worked up over this. I would think that the emr is something that conservatives would love b/c of it's potential to decrease spending for duplication of tests etc.... What is the difference whether the bmi is in an emr or a regular chart, it is still there for insurance companies to get their hands on... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Ay Bendito, Yomari, at least now we understand each other. To think that providing healthcare to Americans is the first step to communism is somewhat off the track. I was born and raised in the Northeast, in small town New England, where we still had town meetings. Some of the " founding fathers " (what about the mothers???) grew up not far from where I did, albeit a couple years earlier. To think that those who began our country could foresee the mess we're in is ridiculous. What they did was give us the framework to build a country, and hope that we'd have the brains to see into our own future. I honestly cannot see any of them saying " I got mine, you're on your own " . , are you referring to McCarthyism? If so, I'm glad we're past that. I suppose if I had the time I could go find quotes to match yours. That's an easy exercise in trying to prove your point. I'd much prefer to let my actions prove mine. Guest guest
Someone's going to have to tell us what that danger is. The fear mongers among us continue to warn of the horrible effects of any change. Having studied the health care bill in a structured, graduate level class (not reading into it whatever I happen to fear at the moment) I can honestly say that it doesn't go far enough. It's a good start. We'll see low income adults now getting access to healthcare. Before folks claim that these are lazy, uneducated, moochers, let me alert you to the fact that these are the folks who are employed but don't make enough money to afford insurance or are working for employers who don't offer benefits. If that's what you fear, so be it. Pam Charney pcharney@... > Beautiful words I had forgotten, . You're always such a good > source of historical facts and objective opinions.
Guest guest
McCarthy was a drunk and apparently couldn't parse his words well, so he made a lot of people mad at him, but he did expose some real communists infiltrating the U.S. government. Those who went to public school may not have been taught the truth about " McCarthyism " . Socialists don't want the truth out about that. Guest guest
Well, my work depends on federal and state funding primarily, althought there are HMO/managed care contracts as well as a few private insurances and private pay. But, I'm always bw the wall and a hard place to state it bluntly; w/o the funding our businesses receive, we'd have a census of about 1/4th of what it is now, or 25% of capacity instead of 94% to 96% as we now have. Therefore, I'd be jobless! But I sure hate the thought of paying more taxes, especially for the unnecessary bills, tests, meds, etc, and for those that could but won't work or do for themselves. Yet, my own g/son w autistic disorder wouldn't make it w/o his SSI stipend, small as it is, while he struggles through college, and he'd need even more help from me than just free lodging and food, and books.... Indeed, I'm caught in between. Aren't we all? But discussions are healthy, and demonstrate all sides are important to listen to. Politics itself? I dislike the topic so I don't discuss politicians, parties, etc. I find that these discussions are more about healthcare policy and economics of our nation and states. Guest guest
OMG! I could write a book just about. I live in the state that will soon follow Greece down the tubes. Our governments live on pretend $$$ - no gold or industry to speak us to back up the paper. Half our population or more live on plastic, the other half starves to death. There are homeless in every corner in LA begging and most of them have at least one fat dog w them (maybe they'd get mugged if not protected?)... I could go on but have an MD appt for my mother. I didn't call anyone a moocher. If it weren't for being able to have state and federal funds pay for her care, my mother, 93 w AD, would be living w me and I'd have to quit work to care for her bc she's in danger and helpless alone. I support 2 adult g/sons who bc of their LDs and other disabilities cannot yet support themselves although they're struggling to make it. I pay their dental bills and thank God they're otherwise healthy, but one of them suffered a serious arm injury bc of an unforseen accident and the ortho surgery cost >$60K. Before judging others or putting different words in our mouths or fingers, it's best to investigate meanings. Critical reading is imporant and I know I'm guilty of typing fast, not reviewing what I've just meant to say, and not utilizing my critical writing skills at times. The danger of emails once again, lacking other communication means such as vocal or body expressions. My personal fear? More government control in every single aspect of my life; what I eat, how much I chose to weigh (hey, maybe I'm too think bc I'm 71 and mortality rate may increase with age for think people?), my right to own and carry weapons, my right to eat and smoke what I chose to as long as I keep it to myself and in my home.... you name it, I want it to be my choice.
