Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event

to be held on 28th October will focus on the

National AIDS Control Program in the context of Goa.

Dr. J. J. Dias Project Director and Dr. D'Sa

Dy. Director Blood Safety of the Goa State AIDS Control

Society (GSACS) will lead the discussion on the National

AIDS Control Program.

The HIV/AIDS scenario urgently requires a community

response so as to contain its spread. To achieve this

objective it is imperative that the AIDS Control Program

needs to be decentralised.

Will the awareness programs be limited to the so called

" High Risk Groups " ? Will sex education in schools and

colleges be an effective tool to control HIV/AIDS ?

Do religious leaders have a specific task in such a

program ?

What strategies can Trade Unions, Women's groups and

Youth Organisations contribute ? What kind of a role can

the tourism trade play in view of Goa being an International

tourist destination ? What additional information must be

made available to people planning to work overseas.

Can the Primary Health Centre be an effective nodal agency

to monitor the effectiveness of the program at the local level?

Do Village Panchayats and Municipal Councils have their

tasks cut out for them in the program ?

The Balcao discussion will cover these questions and

also evolve an agenda for action by citizens on the issue.

Friday Balcao will be from 4pm to 6pm

at the Goa Desc Resource Centre
