Guest guest
HIV-positive thrown out by landlord Tuesday November 1 2005 14:06 IST UDUPI: When the founder of Positive People's Network `Deepa Jyothi', Shanti Noronha, who is also HIV positive, was attending the fifth International AIDS India Conference at Chennai, the landlord of her office in Ajjarkad, Udupi, opened it with a duplicate key and took her valuable documents and other materials. He also changed the locks. He gave the excuse that a cheque for Rs 4,500 issued by her as 45 days rent bounced, owing to insufficient funds in her account. But Shanthi who is back from the conference, claims that she has a deposit of Rs 10,000 with the landlord Radhakrishna Nayak and an agreement for 11 months. She put down the cheque bounce to delay in clearing a cheque for Rs 93,000 issued to her by the Indian Network of Positive People. " I was told that the landlord had removed our notice board and name plate. On Saturday night he disposed off everything from the office. He has even stolen the copy of my lease agreement,'' Shanthi said. " When I contacted the landlord personally, he said that they are not here for social service. They have rented out the house to another party'', she added. http://www.newindpress.com/NewsItems.asp?
