Oh lordy Marie, i think we all can pass for drunks 99% of time. ok, for me, AN

surgery #1 was a cake walk. but AN surgery #2 left me unable to balance at all.

it took a good year, or more to see real improvement, but it never as goodas

prior to surgery. what helped me was forcing myself to do things thatwere

difficult, lke walking in dark, crowded busy places etc. but be careful!!!!!

dont letthe practicve hurt you by falling. it takesthe brain a long time to

learn to compensate....

Hi Marie,

Do you remember that old Cat s song.... " I was once where you are now... "

Well for me, there was good news and bad news. The good news was that my balance

improved but I think it happened very slowly so its hard to notice. The bad news

was that it did not get to the same level it was before. I think I learned to

live with poor balance too....

move slower,

wear running shoes when possible,

watch your step (particularly on uneven ground),

always use the handrail on steps,

etc.

I think Dean used to say that you're only drunk when you can't hang on to

the floor anymore. I guess that is a bit ironic now.

Anyway, hang in there and stay off the floor. You''ll be fine!

I would like a little crewbie " been there, done that " type of advice. Since

my surgery, my balance is MUCH worse than ever. It has now been 3 months,

and does not seem to be getting any better. Have any of you experienced

this type of situation and did in ever improve?

Oh thanks! I do try to walk a lot, can I ask how long it took to start to

improve? marie

I havent been keeping up on my mail but wanted to give a response

on this subject. My balance stayed pretty much the same after my

1st AN surgery. Then after my debulking surgery it got worse in

comparing but those who saw me at the Con know it really wasnt

bad or noticable.

Dr. Slattery told me before this recent surgery when I got my ABI

and they removed the remaining AN, that my balance would get better.

I really didnt think it would..how strange cuz I didnt think it

worked that way. But my balance got noticably better very quick, and

I jumped back from this surgery overall quickly.

It was 3 mths ago when I just had my surgery and I'm back to my normal

workout routine or doing weights, bike and running 3 miles in about

27 min's.....the biggest part that I notice is w/my running. I didnt

have a hard time before but notice I'm more steady and run a little

straighter line than before. I'm also not even using the railing when

going up and down the stairs now. I would do that before some but needed

to watch my steps and just concentrate about it but normally had my hand

on the railing. Now I just fly up and down and not think a thing of it.

Just really weird how it got better but a good thing though.
