Guest guest
Hi All, I have been thinking and thinking about summer school programs for my 11 year old and have some questions to put out to the group. I have only been in Florida 18 months and still learning the ropes. If a child in the public school system is failing and below grade level, are there accommodations for academic help like the old fashioned "summer school"? If all these children who have English as a second language are struggling in school..are there accommodations for them for "summer school"? If so, why am I being asked to pay a teacher $50.00 / hr if I want to have my son receive some academic support over the summer? He is expected to take and PASS the FCAT's just like every other student in the public school, so where is the academic support to reach that goal? It infuriates me to be asked as a taxpayer to support Will Trowers pension of close to a million dollars a year (including full health benefits for life!) after he has been fired as CEO from the North Broward Hospital District, for the next umpteen years, as well as commit to paying a heart surgeon 1.1 million a year for 10 years, while this county is not assisting us in paying TEACHERS a SALARY to TEACH. There is something so fundamentally wrong here. I am very interested in your thoughts and input. Diane McCartin, 's Mom
