Guest guest
What happens if a " high-sulfur " kid eats too much sulfur? Could hyperactivity and irritability be a result? After six weeks on one brand of sulfur-containing digestive enzyme, my son was so hyperactive he began shaking his left hand. I stopped that enzyme immediately, and also the Primal Defense he was taking at the same time, not sure which was the culprit. It took weeks before my son stopped shaking his hand. Five days ago, I started him on another brand of enzyme, and again he's shaking his had already. I think this enzyme also contains sulfur, but I was desparately trying it in the effort to be able to expand his diet to include some non-gfcf foods. I've avoided doing the plasma-cysteine test because getting stuck is so tremendously stressful for my son, but maybe we'll just have to do the test now. Guest guest
Dumb question - How do you know if your child is a high or low sulfur kid? Does it have to do with sulfur wasting? Sonja eats 2 eggs every morning, so she's probably really packing in that sulfur.....
Guest guest
This is a comment. About 2 years ago, my son's head and left hand started shaking the next day, after the Easter picnic. I did remember giving him Mayer's bolgna and ham lunch meat since that brand and those varieties were on the approved gfcf food list. He shook for a few weeks; but, I made no connection from his shaking to the lunch meat. He looked as if though he had acquired the symptoms of Tourette's syndrome. Ojibwa tea got rid of that; but then later, as I learned more, I realized the shaking had been caused by the nitrates, nitrites, sulfites, calcium lactate, and whatever else that was in the lunch meat. I no longer give him any kind of sausage, lunch meat, or canned meat with all these additives in them. His shaking stopped, even though he rarely gets a slight shake in his left hand which I think may be due to high sulpher. I'm still working on the sulpher exclusion diet issue. Hi Debbie, My son is a " low sulfur " kid, but when I give him too much he becomes very emotional and he gets very easily irritated from the smallest reasons. I believe you should listen to your instincts They should be right. Valentina
Guest guest
an egg every day makes me hyper, i hadn't thought about it in the context of sulpher. i eat barn raised or free range, battery hens are full of anitbiotic. if i take 150mg of msm or 500 mg of glucosamine sulphate i get a very positive effect within half an hour, i think this indicates a probelm witht there being not enough sulpher but the basic sulphate to sulphite metabolic pathways are in order. migraines and phenols seem to tie in with sulphur. at the moment i am hyper, i wonder if its the glucosamine sulphate i took yesterday? > Dumb question - How do you know if your child is a high or low sulfur kid? > Does it have to do with sulfur wasting? Guest guest
If my son eats eggs, he is aggitated and aggressive/volatile (not fully aggressive, but irritable and likely to flail his hands at you, needing prompting to stay on task at school, etc.) Whether this is entirely a sulphur issue, or maybe a protein problem or egg allergy, I couldn't say. I have tried many times to figure out Jon's sulfur tolerance by elimination of sulfur for a week or so and then giving high sulfur. I have noticed hyperactivity on both and then out of the blue one or two days of calm and extremely focused on again both the high sulfur and no sulfur diet. I have been very careful to not make any other changes during these trials also. I am reluctant to get him stuck if it not needed but I'm not getting any clues this way and I'm trying very hard to pay attention. Any other tips someone can offer on observation?
