Guest guest Posted September 30, 2005 Report Share Posted September 30, 2005 Fighting AIDS: HIV patient to join Shilpa in campaign Friday September 30 2005 11:47 IST UDUPI: It¡¯s a dream come true for Shanthi Norohna, 30-year-old HIV patient-turned-AIDS awareness activist from Padubelle in Udupi district. Shanthi will join her favourite Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty in spreading AIDS awareness message on October 4. Shilpa Shetty will be in Udupi on October 4 and 5 as part of India¡¯ s largest HIV/AIDS awareness mass media campaign Haath Se Haath Milaa (HSHM) launched by BBC World Service Trust in association with Doordarshan and NACO. As part of the programme Shanthi, along with the students of Milagres College, Kallianpur, will join Shilpa Shetty to spread awareness HIV/ AIDS. The programme includes producing a weekly, reality TV show, focussed on youth Haath Se Haath Milaa to be telecast on DD 1, reaching out to over 58 million viewers. Shanthi¡¯s episode will be shot in Mumbai and Udupi and at Milagres College campus. An inter-collegiate dance competition, discussion on AIDS prevention has been organised and the screening of a non-commercial film Phir Milenge, directed by Revathi, in which Shilpa played a key role with Salman Khan, will also be screened. Shilpa will judge the final rounds of dance competition, participate in the discussion and be part of the screening of her film. HSHM will feature Shanthi as a Yuva Star, who being a HIV positive made an outstanding contribution towards spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS. http://www.newindpress.com/NewsItems.asp?
