As for me, I'm 34, UD and mom to 2 girls with a third baby expected in about a month. We TTC'ed our first 2 for about 7 months before concieving. (The third was an unexpected blessing!) I can't really offer any TTC advice, but hope that some encouragement helps! ~~Bethany

Guest guest
Bethany; Thank you! Congratulations on your girls and newest little one! Everytime I hear success stories it lifts me up. Several years ago, I actually printed out success stories and took them to one of my doctors! I switched docs shortly after that. :-) How are your pregnancies? My ob is still saying mandatory bedrest at 28-30 weeks and everything I've read (and my RE) say that bed rest is only necessary if the cervices look to be getting weak or there are other signs of pretem labor. Actually my RE put it to me in these terms " there isn't anything that can be done in your case; just get pg, get a good ob who understands the risks and will pay attention to you and if you go into preterm labor, it should be managaged just like anyone else's would be. " I can't help but think that true bed rest (if its not needed) would just make the whole situation more difficult.(?) I am hoping that DH & I just need to TTC a little longer and that there isn't something other than UD preventing conception - I am still waiting to hear from my OB; I have talked to her nurse everyday since Tuesday. I am trying to be patient and remember that the doc probably doesn't even know I've called yet. DH is being wonderful; he is ready to start going back to the RE if it will make me feel better. Sorry this is so long and rambling. UD

Guest guest
Hi , I've carried 3 pregnancies to term with UD, so I am a bit of a veteran on the " bed rest vs. no bed rest " debate. This is a topic that has no definitive answer, I am sure you've gathered that already. My personal experience has been varied. First of all, my OB's advice (she's a high risk/fertility specialist) was similar to yours, basically just " wait and see " , if problems develop, they'll be addressed as they turn up. With my first PG, I was sooo paranoid that although I wasn't told to go on bed rest, I quit working and basically loafed around the house from 32 weeks on. I can't believe I didn't perish form daytime TV overdose Interestingly, that's the pregnancy where I had the most " bedrest " type of environment, and it was also my biggest baby - although still not huge at 6 lbs 12 oz. My second pregnancy, I worked full-time pretty much through, at a pretty sedentary desk job. I did have some " cervical changes " and contractions around 32 weeks and was put on bed rest for 2 weeks, and then since everything stayed fine, returned to work for the duration of my pregnancy. That baby was 6 lbs. 4 oz., but the PG was in the OTHER uterus, so in some ways it was like a first pregnancy. With my third, I worked up to and including the day I delivered, since the delivery was unexpected, and this baby was 6 lbs. 8 oz. at 37 weeks. I guess my takeaway would be to definitely consider and plan for bedrest as a possibility. From how I physically felt during my pregnancies, I truly believe it would be a benefit, in terms of taking weight off the cervix and helping the baby get optimal nutrition/blood supply and grow well. For various reasons, I couldn't afford to do it, but if you can, even if it's not strict bedrest, but more relaxing at home, I would think it would help a lot. Plus, at least with my first PG, it gave me a great peace of mind to know I was doing everything POSSIBLE to get to term, so even if things went wrong, I had fewer " what if's " to guilt myself over Sorry to be so long, just my perspective. Take care, Lia

It does sound like there isn't a solid answer on bed rest. My work is a big issue for us - I currently work 60+ hours a week (it is pretty sedentary, but can be high stress) and I know that regardless of anything else, that has to go way down when I do get pg. Right now I have 14 wks paid leave (one of the reasons we waited to TTC was to build up my leave time) As stress may well be a factor in our inability to get pg, I have been working on relaxation and remembering to " chill out " . When the time comes I will do whatever is necessary to ensure that the little one gets here as safely as possible - would rather stay home longer after baby arrives though! :-) Thanks again!
