PATNA: With the number of full-blown cases of Aids in Bihar reaching

1,138 and that of HIV+ cases 7,022, the Bihar State Aids Control

Society (BSACS) on Monday launched its website — www.bsacs.org — for

offering information to people about the dreaded diseases.

BSACS project director K K Pathak launched the website which offers

valuable information about the daily reporting units comprising 63

Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centres, 42 blood banks, 44

Prevention of Parent-to-Child Transmission Centres, 15 NGOs and 48

STD centres. All these centres are spread over the 38 districts of

the state and the status of all these segments is upgraded everyday,

Pathak told newsmen.

According to joint director, information, education and

communication, of BSACS, Vishal Singh, about 1.16 lakh people were

tested for HIV in a recently launched mobile awareness and testing

campaign christened " Yuva Jeevan Hai Anmol " .

The campaign focussed on group counselling and awareness among

adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 years in the 38 districts

of the state.

The statistics provided by BSACS is alarming with the HIV infection

rate among women — 0.63 per cent — being higher than men (0.58 per

cent) in Bihar.
