Guest guest
Molly I agree with you. Why take a pill to keep on doing something that makes you sick. I see so many people take pills for high blood pressure, but still not diet and exercise to keep it under control, also taking pills for high cholesterol and still eating the wrong diet. I see diabetics taking medications for it and still eating the wrong diet. To me this is just plain lack of self discipline. If all it takes is staying on a diet, I think we are really lucky. I just had a close friend pass away from ovarian cancer and there was nothing she could do to avoid that. I wish a diet could have saved her, and I know her family and she would have been happy to just stick to a diet to avoid what happened to her. Our diet is not so bad, really. Before I got diagnosed, I was on a worse diet. Everything I ate made me sick so I hardly ate anything. Now, I can eat so many things, just not with gluten. My diet is better now than ever before in my life and I am 63 years old so that is a long time! ita

Guest guest
This is very interesting. I have been considering doing a liver flush for about a month now. I have been on the curezone site but have not seen this particular page. I would love to hear from other celiacs if they have done or are intending on doing the liver flush. Guest guest
I agree too about taking minimal amounts of pills. I missed the part in the article about taking a pill to “cure” celiac.. Could you recount to me what it said? Thanks

Honestly, I didn't even check the link because I feel a disease that can be cured by diet alone is the ultimate achievement in " curing " , unless we could prevent it altogether from developing (without chemicals). Now I should check it out so I at least know what I am talking about. Guest guest
Most of us celiacs have gone through years of nonsense and lack of appropriate help from doctors before getting diagnosed. The statistics are that in the United States the average amount of years to diagnosis is 11 years. Those facts tend to make us skeptical of doctors. But it is important for us to be skeptical of outside information too. The site ( http://curezone.com/dis/1.asp?C0=80 ) would have us believe that if we cleansed our liver and gallbladder that we would get rid of celiac disease. But we all know that celiac disease is caused by our body's genetic inability to digest gluten as in wheat, barley, rye, etc. It does not make sense to say that a cleanse will get rid of a genetic problem. A cleanse doesn't do anything to change genes or inability to digest wheat, etc. I took a tour around the site enough to know that they support Dr. (not a medical doctor) Hulda 's zapper. Dr. purports that her zapper will kill bacteria, viruses, parasites, AIDS and cancer through electricity applied to the body. This link discusses these concepts and (at the end) the legal problems they have incurred. http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Cancer/clark.html I couldn't be more skeptical of the curezone.com site. At Stanford, they are working for a cure of celiac disease, but the theory behind it is to supply the enzymes to digest gluten that the celiac genetically does not have. http://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=719 Jo Anne Celiac Cure? I am sure everyone is waiting for the day when they see that title with an exclamation point instead of a question mark.I came across something interesting, dont really buy it, but interesting, when I typed in "celiac cure" into google.http://curezone.com/dis/1.asp?C0=80Has anyone else heard of anything like this before. I wonder if any labs have done any sort of tests like this on celiac patients to see if this cant be done. From all of the research I have been reading, it looks like most of the damage is caused after you have been eating wheat for awhile. Not to mention that here:http://www.celiacsprue.org/celiacpill.htmlThey actually mention coming up with a "safe and effective therapeutic alternative to a gluten-free diet ". Guest guest
Molly, You have just made my DAY!!!! I am going to Ireland in February and have been moderately stressed out about having to eat in restaurants for 10 days!! They do know WAY more about it over there generally, but you know how we get about our diet - LOL! I've gathered some info on Ireland - B & Bs that prepare GF bread, a few restaurants people had good experiences with - I definitely have to search St. s for that post! Oh, and I definitely agree about the pill-popping! I have to take vitamins, iron 2x a day, calcium 2x a day and of course none of that can be taken at the same time so I am popping pills all day - I hope when the insides get healed one vitamin a day will be sufficient! No way would I pop a pill for a " cure " ! Celeste I have never been to Europe, but I > remember reading awhile back on St. 's about an > Ireland summary. Guest guest
Isn't it Ireland (it's some European country I think...) that actually tests every child before they enter school for CD?? -----Original Message-----From: crc0622 Sent: Thursday, August 26, 2004 8:34 AMTo: SillyYaks Subject: Re: Celiac Cure?Molly,You have just made my DAY!!!! Guest guest
I'd take a pill if it would cure me, any day of week!! So long as it actually cured (i.e. repaired the villi). I would take the pill, then proceed to eat pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then I'd have spaghetti as a midnight snack. In between I'd have a constant supply of doughnuts on hand. I might even devise a Batman like doughnut utility belt. Sorry people, but I'm not going to pretend I'm happier not eating wheat. > I am sure everyone is waiting for the day when they see that title > with an exclamation point instead of a question mark. > > I came across something interesting, dont really buy it, but > interesting, when I typed in " celiac cure " into google. > > http://curezone.com/dis/1.asp?C0=80 > > Has anyone else heard of anything like this before. Guest guest
I'm with you, ! I sign my posts "Gloriously GF" not because I'm happy to be passing up the croissants, but because I'm not throwing up the croissants any more! And when I look at my 11-year-old Silly Yak and all she's missing out on, well, I can think of plenty of other ways to build character than to have to watch your best friend eat Domino's while you get re-heated GF pizza. We are definately making the best of the hand we've been dealt, but I would take, and give to my daughter, a pill in a NY minute! You can certainly eat a healthy diet that includes gluten. And if it doesn't include vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, etc., I'll happily donate my english muffin rings and GF mixes, and the anxiety that goes along with this whole deal. To be able to shop without a notebook full of lists of GF and forbidden foods! Come on! This is not exactly the most fun I've ever had in my entire life. I AM grateful to be healthy, but given the choice between popping a pill and having to agonize over every morsel of food I put in my mouth? No eating out without fifty e-mails on the message board? Every gastro symptom a CD drama? Problems with friends, family, teachers, and heaven knows who else? Doctors who treat you like less than human? I choose the pill, hands down.
