D & C

Hi everyone, I haven't post in a while, but still read with interest your

messages daily. I have a 18-week size fibroid uterus, had a myometomy four

years ago, and within two years they were back. I''m 50 years old now and

have been doing the " wait and see " method, hoping that menopause will take

care of my fibroids soon. Recently, however, my regular sonograms have shown

a larger-than-normal size endometrial lining, and therefor I'm scheduled to

have a D & C this week. Several months ago I had an endometrial biopsy which

was negative. In terms of controlling discomfort (pain) during and after the

D & C procedure, can anyone give me advice as to what to do and/or take?

Since I do not have anyone available to take me to the doctor's office or

pick me up after the procedure, (my gyn is out of town so I'll have to travel

to get there) will I be able to walk out and function fairly normally

afterward? Thanks in advance, Barbara in NYC.

I've had 3 D & C's and there is no pain afterward so you shouldn't need any

medication. If you do have any it should be very slight and probably Tylenol

or Motrin would relieve any pain you are having.
