Guest guest
Workshop on Children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV and AIDS As part of the AIDS INDIA Conference (20-24th) in Chennai , a Satellite workshop, HIV prevention and care needs of orphans and other vulnerable children slated for the Oct 21st between 6.30-8pm. This satellite meeting is sponsored by FXB to improve our understanding and facilitate dialogue about policies and programs related to children living with, orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS in India. Due to lack of an agreed definition of children and horrendous apathy towards the well being of children living and affected by HIV & AIDS make it difficult to estimate the magnitude of the problem. According to Human Rights watch (2004) an estimated 55,000 - 200,000 children are living with HIV in India and an additional 2 million have been orphaned by AIDS, having lost one or both parents to the epidemic. The problem of Children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS is likely to increase substantially unless proactive policies and programs are implemented. This satellite meeting is part of FXB's ongoing effort to advocate for the health and well being of Children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. FXB intends to utilize this FORUM to advocate for a national plan of action for children affected by HIV/AIDS and specific resource allocation as part of 3rd phase of the National AIDS Control Program. Countess Albina du Boisouvray the founder of Association François- Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) will chair the session. All are invited: Light supper will be provided: RSVP: Ms. Sudha .
