Guest guest
Holly, I would not avoid colonoscopy. Colon cancer is such a killer. No harm in going in to take a look. If caught early, it's a cancer that can be nipped in the bud (literally!!!). -Jane anyone else with this symptom? > Hello everyone, > > I've yet to find someone else who has the problem of constipation > with her fibroids. Guest guest
> Hello everyone, > > I've yet to find someone else who has the problem of constipation > with her fibroids. Do any of you have this issue and if so, what are > you doing about it? Hi Holly, Yes! Yes! Yes! This is actually how I found out about my fibroid. I started having constipation in the mornings, blood in the stool and then looser bowel movements later in the day. I thought I had irritable bowel syndrom, so had a colonoscopy about this time last year (compared to my wisdom teeth..it was a walk in the park). That doctor said she didn't find anything but clean bowel, some hemmorroids (from being constipated, most likely) and something pushing into the intestines near the secum (lower right abdominal area where the small and large intestines meet) that could be an ovarian cyst or a fibroid. Subsequent tests showed a 3.5 cm intramural fibroid on the front right portion of my uterus. Basically, sandwiched between my uterus and bladder (so, yes...feeling of always having to urinate was present, as well). But what it also did was move my uterus just enough that it pushed into my intestines and rectum causing the constipation. My fibroid has grown to 5.2 cm since last year and the symptoms increased with it. My cousin has a fibroid located on the back of her uterus pushing right on the rectum and she also has constipation with sometimes severe pain during bowel movements. So, yes, this can definitely be a symptom! As for what I'm doing about it. Well, I also had other symptoms like heavy periods, abdomen pain and pressure and with the growth spurt of my fibroid from 3.5 cm in June 2000 to 5.2 cm in September 2000, my doctor and I agreed that a myomectomy was the way to go (I hope to have kids someday and the jury is still out on UAE and pregnancy and I don't think my insurance covers that anyway).
