Guest guest
Hello. My husband just found out last Fall he has a prominent malformation with a syringomyelia. He has had headaches all of his life; however, they became more severe after a fall in 1991, after which he was never examined -until a few months ago. We do not know a whole lot about the condition, but he has had various symptoms, the most persistent being his head and neck pain. Besides that, he has become increasingly forgetful, and has periods of dizziness, partial numbness and blurred vision. His sense of balance is off. The first neurologist thought perhaps his decongestant was causing the latter symptoms - which our primary care MD dismissed. Now a second neurologist is saying that even his headaches may not be caused by the malformation because they are not " classic " chiari symptoms: headaches that are brought on by the stress of coughing or sneezing. And as to the other symptoms, they come and go. His employer really wonders about him due to his forgetfulness - says if it's physical he needs to see if he can get it fixed. Neurologist #2 is monitoring the size of the syringomyelia. In the meantime, hubby is being referred to another neurologist by our MD, mainly because of the frustration level of patient and employer (and others involved). A phrase I hear from hubby almost daily is " I'm losing it " , because he forgets so much. He's only 39, guys. If there's something else that is causing it, would the dr's not try to investigate? Why are they just dismissing what they do not fully understand? Is there anybody out there that can relate to this? Thank you for your time.
