The illegality has caused the incursion of organised (and disorganised!) crime into the process of obtaining drugs. Recall that it was once this way where alcohol was concerned in the days of Prohibition as well. The drug related crimes in Amsterdam are practically nonexistent. I dearly hope that somehow the US and other countries that subscribe to " drug war " thinking will realise this sometime in the next century. Drugs should - and can be - regulated. But there will be no removal of the desire to use them with laws. If one wishes to use drugs enough, one breaks laws - ANY laws. ly, a lot of kids that use things like crack today do so because of its very illegality - because it is " bad " . And also, the dealers who deal it do so because it allows for them to make more money than working at Mcs. I know you've probably heard all this before, but, oh hell, I felt it might be time to say it once more. -DM
