I have a new routine going this last month. My dh got me a weight station in

the basement and we have a row machine that you sit on and my darling

dreadmill. So they, dh and the boys finally showed me how to use the stuff

and i have been lifting weight 3 nights a week and then the dreadmill for

30-40 minutes 2-3 days a week. I feel better. I am starving most of the

time now including in the middle of the night...so i guess it is working. My

clothes are a bit loser...guess I should find the scale...I do believe I

threw it out the bathroom window some time

ressy

going to scour the yard for the scale

Hi

I have a work out schedule that I follow. I try to do aerobic exercise

4-6 times a week and muscle building/toning 6-7 times a week. I walk

about 6 km nightly when the weather is good, but this has been very

infrequent during Dec, Jan and Feb. When I can't walk I do one of two

aerobic tapes. I also do Abs and Buns of steel and

toning downtown every morning before work.

Try AQUA therapy.... excerise in the water....

you can do jogging in the water and its great on arthritis, and takes all the

weight/pressure off the joints.

I KNOW I need to start doing some sort of exercise. I have a stationary

bike but it about kills my posterior after sitting on it for only a couple

of minutes! Anyone have recommendations about a good one that is more

comfortable and not hard on the arthritic knees??? Are the ones where your

legs are more out in front of you, rather than under you, easier on the

knees? The ones made like that seem to have larger seat areas also.

I saw one in our Sam's Club but it's $300!!

Thanks!

Vicki in CO

BTW - I've now lost 18.75 lb. since Jan. 28!!!! Yippee!!!!!

-- Re: Exercise

I do 30 minutes of stationary bike almost every day, and several times a

week i do a little weight lifting. i usually went to the gym but then i got

a stationary bike at home for those days like you say that i get home late

and don't have time to go to the gym. and i always read or watch tv and/or

listen to music at the same time, so i even forget i'm doing exercise and i

look at it as my 30 daily minutes of recreative reading.

Vicki M, put a pillow on the seat, set it to it's easiest, put something

riveting on the tube, and do as much as you can, even if it's a little bit.

An exercise bike like that is the best for the arthritis in your knees,

because it makes them move, and movement is what will loosen them up.

Taking a couple of tylenol or advil first might help. Even if you can only

do 5 rotations, do that a few times per day until you can do 6 rotations,

and so on.

In awhile I believe you will feel much better.

We have one of those " Health Rider " machines. Remember when they

were all the rage? Anyway, that's what I have to do when I work out

on it - put a big pillow on the seat.

I used to huff and puff just carrying

my supplies up 1 flight of stairs.

I can barely get myself up a flight of stairs. Part of that is lack of

We're getting to closer to garage sale season. That's a great way to shop

for exercise equipment. Just try it to make sure everything works.

And garage sales are good sources of exercise themselves! Let me

at 'em! ;-)

Well, I tried getting up to walk at 5am, but that only lasted about a week.

Since then, I've told DH that he'll be cooking supper most nights (his

commute is 5 minutes, mine is 45), and while he's cooking, I'm doing

treadmill, or tai chi, or yoga, or some other aerobics thing.

It's not perfect, but it gets done 3-4 times a week that way.

Wow, Art, that's quite a workout! Are you getting ready for an Iron
