Guest guest
Hi everyone- I recently read a post somewhere (I believe it was on this list) regarding immunizations not being given to children who have undergone blood transfusions and the question was raised about immunizations and IVIG. Since Jack gets infusions of IVIG every 4 weeks and he is due for his 5 year immunizations, I called our Ped. According to our Ped's office, children getting IVIG infusions should not receive their immunizations - as for the 5 year immunizations (I don't remember them all) most just would not work but the IVIG does the trick for keeping them well anyway, however, the MMR is specifically contraindicated for use while on IVIG. A child must wait 6-8 months after the last IVIG infusion to receive immunizations. So, for the other kids out there on IVIG, it is worth checking with your ped or neurologist if they are due for immunizations. (Mom to Jack, 5 yrs, susp mito, CIDP, chronic dysmotility, gtube, port and Abby, 2 yrs and doing fine)
