Guest guest
Is anyone aware of any studies that are being done with bethanechol to treat autistic children? I have read numerous anecdotal accounts of successes with this medication for a number of situations, but my son's physician does not feel comfortable prescribing a medication based on anecdotal stories. Any insight would be appreciated. Chris
Guest guest
Dr. Megson is currently running a study using cod liver oil and bethanechol. I don't think she's published any results yet, however. You can probably find more information in her website, www.megson.com Max --- c_wians <c_wians@...> wrote: > Is anyone aware of any studies that are being done > with bethanechol > to treat autistic children? Guest guest
does he turn his head and look at things through the corner of his eyes? does he do it with ceiling fans or while driving in the car? if he does it is probably a peripheral vision problem. his peripheral vision is probably more developed than his center vision...and when he focuses on things that are in front of him he can actually see the things in his periphery better...which would cause him to be easily distracted and make it hard for him to sustain eye contact. there are simple ways to remedy this...for some they work and for some they don't. they did for my child...after one month of doing these remedies he has never done the eye thing again...one method involves shining a flashlight in his eye but the flashlight has a penny taped on it...the penny casts a shadow over the pupil only (you have to hold the flashlight close) and you basically blind the white of his eye for like five seconds and then take the flashlight away for ten seconds...you do each eye ten times like this three times a day...another method is having him wear " pinhole " glasses for certain amounts of time a day. http://www.myopia.org/pinholes.htm these methods are part of Neuraldevelopmental Therapy (ND). your child would have an evaluation and he may have to do more or less of these things depending on how the evaluation goes...ND is for all kinds of problems kids have with sensory issues...is he a picky eater? sensitive to sound? issues with sensitivity concerning his sense of touch? I would look into ND. http://www.hope-future.org/ phil [ ] Bethanechol Hi, My son Hridhay often looks thro the corner of his eye. This has greatly reduced since we gave him Cod Liver Oil but he still does it often. He also tends to bring things close to him to look at sometimes . We have been giving him CLO for a good 6 months now and he gets about 3000IU of Vitamin A a day atleast . His expressive is still poor (he is 2 yrs 10 mon ..has 20 words maybe ..receptive 50+ words) . He tries to talk but cant get words out. My DAN doctor now wants to try the Bethanechol challenge (Dr.Megson's protocol). Has any of you tried it ? Anything to watch out for ? What are the cases it has worked ? Any wows from members of this list ? We are going to do the first dose in the doctors office . I appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks in advance for the help. Guest guest
When my son started on Bethanechol we noticed that he interacted with us much more, that his attempts at communication increased dramatically (he was pretty much non-verbal) and his eyecontact increased. Although I understand that hyperactivity is a possible side effect, as is reduced sleep, thankfully we did not have any of those problems. Our doctor told us that there are some kids that have very dramatic improvements on Bethanechol. Good Luck kav_rag <kavirag@...> wrote: Hi, My son Hridhay often looks thro the corner of his eye.
