I'm a little spacey today - maybe I didn't say it right before. If not, please forgive me. Guest guest
. Actually , I am not suffering from weight loss anymore. I think being spayed and my thyroid surgery, hormones, and thyroid replacement keeps me above where I should really be weight wise. Of course, being a grazing goat is a contributing factor as well. :-) After the last surgery, I have 20 pounds I gained, and never got rid of, or tried to for that matter. When I went to see while in CA, the first question he asked me was, how are you? next thing he said to me was, and I see you have gained weight? I said, ah, thanks for noticing, and you are every girl's best friend! He wanted to know if their was any specific reason for it. Yeah, like I eat like a pig, am not working, no exercise, to much sitting on the pity potty, etc... I know my mother certainly made some under the breath comments about weight, kind of in an off handed way. Know her well enough, it was a direct shot at me though. So, count me out of that club now. I pretty much stay where I am now, and if it bothers anyone, F*** em! Am I in a mood today? yeah, I guess. Did the doc say anything about how soon you could return to Curves? I know you like going there. I wish I could just get some motivation to do what you are doing. If nothing else, I know it helps with stress levels. Here I have a gym where I live, has all new state of the art stuff, do I go? nah! why? dunno. Love ya, Normi Re: Weight Loss Journey>The only two people here that I know of who have complained that they>keep losing weight are Normi the goat and . Guest guest
Jerri, I'm afraid that I am a bad one to ask on the weight loss thing. I've been fighting that war since I was four years old. I only ever won a few minor skirmishes. The best I did was as a of six child when I was put on Thyroid. I lost all the excess weight, gained a tremendous amount of energy, and was within normal weight ranges in spite of being extremely tall, too. However, that was before the days of blood panels which monitored thyroid. Once the first blood tests were available, it showed I didn't really need thyroid, according to the docs, and it was taken away. Except for one year on PhenFen, when I lost over 100 lbs. , I have never had success with any weight loss program, no matter how much exercise I got. The minute I reduce my caloric intake below 1800 a day, my body goes into starvation mode, and I begin to hibernate. It is even worse since all these illnesses have come into my life. It takes every ounce of self control I can muster to stay even 20 lbs. under where I started on PhenFen more than five years ago. So far, at least, I have not gained it ALL back, and that is some small comfort. My mother was obsessed with my weight the whole time I was going through puberty. She dragged me to doctor, after doctor, after doctor...none of whom were very helpful, and several of whom were subsequently removed from the AMA because their diet programs included lots of pretty colored pills which were actually uppers. I used to beg my mother not to make me take the things, but she was so blinded by the social consquences of having a fat daughter, she couldn't just let me be. So, yes, I have the same weight loss needs, at about the same number of pounds that you do, but I have no faith in diets, exercise programs, or doctors who claim to have any of the answers. When I was merely 18 years old, I told one of those famous docs that I didn't believe my weight was " my own fault " any more, and that I believed it had its roots in the brain chemistry, and hormones. Almost every doc I saw laughed at that theory, but low and behold! Now it seems I may have been correct. Research is showing that it is a combination of factors which make us obese to begin with, and keep us obese. My younger sisters both became obese in early adulthood, after they had their first babies, and suffer from the same guilt that I used to. However, I can't teach them not to feel that guilt, because they only remember how our mother's attitude toward me made them fear a similar fate, being fat. They can't see that she was ill informed, and dead wrong. For, according to my endocrinologist, most of us who are obese were built to withstand long periods without food, sort of like bears who hibernate and get skinny during the winter. However, evolution of our species has not kept pace with evolution of our technology, and we can get anything we want to eat, any time we want it these days. He was the first doctor to tell me it wasn't " my own fault " . I was over thirty by then. How sad, to waste to many years trying to do the impossible and feeling so guilt ridden because I couldn't. So, what I have tried to do, instead of subjecting my body to any more stress and strain, is to maintain a reasonable diet with little or no processed sugars or prepackaged foods (except when Normi was here, LOL), exercise as much as my body will allow, and try to keep on keeping on. I would have it much easier, I think, if I were not obese, but like Lupus, and all the other conditions I have, I did not run out in the road and say, " Hey, God, pick me, pick me! " I wish you all the luck in the world, and don't go by my experience. Just thought you should see the situation from all sides, and not beat yourself up over it. Guest guest
Jerri, A year ago I was about 100 lbs overweight. I had tried every diet around with only limited success and then I'd gain the weight back plus more. I decided I was sick of it and had a roux-en-y gastric bypass (weight loss surgery) in December. I've since lost 96 lbs and have gone from a size 22/24 to a size 12. I'm pretty much where I want to be since I'm 5'9". I'm not saying that you should have surgery, just thought I'd tell you what the answer to my weight problems was. I have not regretted my decision once and I've had no complications from the surgery. W Weight Loss Journey Anyone else here on a serious weight loss journey? I have about 100 pounds to lose and have been really trying for about 9 weeks. So far I've lost 16 pounds. Of course, went on Prednisone for 5 days and gained 14 pounds, but I've lost almost all of that again. I'm trying to just eat really healthy, low fat and moderate carb. I've been on every "diet" ever invented and they didn't work. So I'm trying to do "the right thing". I do okay with the food and drinking my water, but the exercise is so hard. At my weight and all the achy joints, I just want to be still. Of course I know I can't but I do need to get more exercise - lots more!Just wondered if anyone here was facing the same challenges as I am. Just what we need on top of all the lupie stuff huh! Guest guest
Thanks so much for writing. I'm glad to hear you have had such a good result. Do you have a hard time " not eating " or restricting your serving sizes? A lady from my church had a surgery (not sure which one) and she's not doing well. I don't think she has been able to get her serving sizes right yet. It's definitely something to think about. I would love to hear more about it if you want to share. For now, I'm not yet at that point, but that may change. Thanks for the info! Jerri > Jerri, > A year ago I was about 100 lbs overweight. Guest guest
Jerri, Thanks for not getting offended when I told you about my weight loss surgery. I don't mind sharing anything you want to know. Everyone, please, please, please don't take this as I'm saying that anyone overweight should have surgery or even that being overweight means you are not okay! Now, having said my disclaimer. I have no problems with portions. The first few months, portions were pretty small. Now they seem normal to me. For example. I can eat all of a small lean cuisine meal. I can eat about 3-4 oz chicken breast, a couple of bites of a baked potato, and a bite or two of veggies. Very healthy portions if you think about it. I pretty much eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat it. I had problems with milk for a few months, but don't have problems with it now. I had the surgery in December and my sister had it in June. She has done just as well as me and has had no problems. We went on a cruise a couple of weeks ago with our mom. We all ate very well. We would each order a different appitizer, meal, and desert so we could try a bite or two of each. My sis and I didn't feel the least bit deprived as far as food was concerned. All of my weight related health issues have totally disappeared or very greatly improved. Unfortunately, one health issue that is not weight related has surfaced again since July. I had acute pancreatitis in 2000 and out of the blue began having the attacks again in July 2002. All of my doctors have assured me it has nothing to do with the weight loss surgery. In fact, the biliary surgeon I saw Monday said he was sure that having the surgery and getting almost 100 lbs off had greatly improved my overall health in spite of the pancreatitis. There's another member of our group, Cyndie, who had the surgery a few months after me. The last I heard, she was doing well. He husband also had the surgery a few months before me. The best source for info is at www.obesityhelp.com. If there are other questions I can answer, let me know. W Weight Loss Journey> > > Anyone else here on a serious weight loss journey? Guest guest
Hi , No they did not remove it they said they want to keep an eye on it, it is not expelling fast enough it is too slow but they said there are no stones or blockages, but my family doctor who saw me there and who has now become my new family doctor (BECAUSE HE WAS SO NICE TO ME IN HOSPITLAL AND WILL TAKE MY LUPUS SERIOUSLY)and a little bit because he looks like morgan freeman : -) I always think morgan freeman looks like an honest nice person. Anyways they may remove it later because it is sick and not working correctly but my new family doctor said it is best to have them removed when they are not enflamed or fluid around the outside of it, and when I dont have the fever anymore, so all of that is better and they let me go home and the gastro doctor I will see and we will talk about the gall bladder ofptions. I sure dont want to wait until I get more serious problems like you did thank you for sharing with me. Take care Carla sue
Guest guest
Hi Jerri, I live in phoenix Arizona, and the one thing I have found about weight issues is that if you are feeling bad about yourself then you will continue to gain it, what I do is buy nice clothes that make me feel pretty, and not expensive ones either just ones that fit me nice and go will with my hair color and make me feel good, a pretty dress or a nice blouse does the trick, then I love to take scented bathes and use scented lotions, keep my hair nice even if I am home all day and noone is going to see it, it makes me feel better and I find I am not eating as much or for that matte worrying about my weight that much, I have learned to like myself first, then I will do the treadmill not to lose weight or impress anyone but to keep my circulatory system healthy, and be able to do more things with my son.
Guest guest
Carlasue, Did they end up removing your gallbladder? Please do take care. Fats are very hard on the gallbladder but if your gallbladder is bad it won't really matter what you eat as anything can cause problems. I'm not trying to scare you but they really think it was my gallbladder that caused the damage to my bile duct before the gallbladder was removed in 98. I am now having recurring attacks of acute pancreatitis and have been in the hospital 8 times since July. I will most likely be having surgery on the bile duct in the very near future. They have sent me to a biliary surgeon but of course he wants one more ct scan before cutting me open. Please do take care. W Re: Weight Loss Journey Im right there with you Jerri, has been a battle for many years from my thyroid, and love of mexican food lol, now after hospital stay for bad gall bladder and high liver enzymes, I am taking the fatty food issure very seriously, I want to keep those organs I may need them later. I just hate execising and wish I had someone to do it with me that would help, I know even twenty to thirty minutes a day on a treadmill will make a big difference. Take care and good luck and feel free to cry on my shoulder if having a krispy kreme attack lol. Guest guest
Carlasue - Thanks for your post. I'm trying so hard but Iget soooo frustrated. I need a magic wand! I lost my gall bladder in '95 and I have terrible liver panels too. It's way past time for me to get serious, but i guess better late than never. And I get so mad sometimes, people say well just exercise more. I just want to scream, I have enough pain just moving in general from the pain. I think I would have probably smacked someone by now, but it would hurt too much to chase them! ;o) BTW - from another of your post, I have red hair and fair skin too! Where do you live? I wish we all lived in the same area. Like Lupieland or something. Anyway, I would love for us to keep in touch - kinda weight loss buddies or something if you would like. Let me know. Hugs - Jerri > Im right there with you Jerri, has been a battle for many years from my > thyroid, and love of mexican food lol, now after hospital stay for bad gall > bladder and high liver enzymes, I am taking the fatty food issure very > seriously, I want to keep those organs I may need them later. Guest guest
: I think you had said before that you didn't have gall stones, but rather gall bladder disease. That's what I had too! The theory is when I was pregnant with my son, he was sooo big (he weighed 9lbs 5 oz 3 weeks early) that he pressed upward on my gallbladder causing the tube at the bileduct to kink (like a water hose). My gallbladder filled with bile and stayed full for so long that the acid ate the lining of the gallbladder away causing ulcers. Eventually (sorry - I know this is gross) the back side of my gallbladder started to rot. When they took it out, my gallbladder had oozed and grown onto my liver and ribcage. They had to scrape all the parts clean. I still have a little pain there but nothing compared! I hope you get that problem repaired soon! You have my sympathy! Take care!
