Guest guest
> > http://www.drmirkin.com/heart/7642.html > Gabe Mirkin, M.D.> Hello Frances: Thanks for doing this vital and interesting research on heart meds and diuretics and how they can make us gain weight. I would like to add that for those of us who are on Coumadin, that it contains sulfonyl urea and that this can also cause hyper- insulemia or stated simply, an excess of insulin in the body. I have low blood pressure, SSS sick sinus syndrome and a slow heart rate. I have cut most of the dairy products I used to consume,so I am finding it difficult to lose weight at this time because the particular protein in milk used to help me lose weight....I am still on a high dose of Coumadin,Tambocor and small dose of Paxil and in NSR since I have cut out milk and dairy about 95%. Isabelle >snip>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Recent research shows that beta blockers and diuretics, the drugs prescribed most often for high blood pressure, cause high blood sugar levels, weight gain, tiredness and impotence. Most people with high blood pressure have high blood insulin levels that can cause sudden heart attacks, diabetes, etc......Fran

I have lost weight without trying since cutting dairy products. I have read that it's the calcium in milk that promotes weight loss, and I take 1,000 m.g. of calcium daily now that I no longer drink copious amounts of milk. (I also take both Atenolol, Coumadin, and Verapamil.) I have also found that cutting additional salt on foods helps fight the water retention caused by Verapamil and possibly Atenolol. I hope this helps. I am back from my great weekend away and ready to face another challenging week in which I will make more mistakes, I'm sure. :-) in sinus in Seattle (Day 165)
