Guest guest
Just want to clarify a couple of things. You have to be careful when calling drugs " mycins " the aminoglycosides (gentamicin, tobramycin and amikacin) are completely different than the macrolide drugs (erythromycin, clarithromycin-Biaxin, and azithromycin - Zithromycin). To the best of my knowledge, there is no harm with the macrolids unless you're taking cisapride (Propulsid), in which case there is a chance that there can be some significant cardiac rhythm problems. Rhys has been on Zithromax many times for convenience purposes when he's needed antibiotics for something that was felt to be erythromycin sensitive. Lastly, there is one other " mycin " family that comes to mind from the mold streptomyces - streptomycin. So as you can see, there are many mycins, and none are related to the other. I just dug up the Scientific Proceedings from Philadelphia's conference because I thought there must have been a section for medicines, but can't locate the Parent Conference Procedings. If I find things, I'll send the list a copy of the medicines that should and shouldn't be taken. One last thing unrelated to the above, though I should be able to update Rhys' site pretty soon, just figured I'd let everyone know that Rhys is the only one of my three kids that is actually on the growth chart!!!! Go figure. As a result, I'm now experimenting with cutting back from 4 to 3 cans of Pediasure each night. I'm also encouraging him to actually drink some from a glass or can (he has no problems downing 3 oz from the end of the tube, so I know taste is not an issue) before he gets hooked up. He then gets whatever remains from the 3rd can plus 2 others at his usual rate of 85cc/hr. I figure if he finishes up at somewhere between 3-4AM, then he'll actually be hungry in the morning and eat something. He did this morning and almost polished off a large Dennys pancake. It would be nice to get off the tube (though would leave the button in for security). Take care, Ken
