*grin* no I understood what you were saying. I actually was suggesting to you

that you take it in the evening. lantus doesn't have a peek dave like that old

stuff you used to take. that old long acting stuff makes any one go low in the

middle of the night.

I worked with harry and linda on list here to take lantus in the evenings and

they adjusted it down to where they were never low in the middle of the night

and their morning sugars are great.

There are benefits to taking lantus in the evenings rather than the mornings.

That is why all doctors try to start folks on lantus in the evenings.

Regards,

,

You limit your carb intake to around 90 grams daily, but

does this mean even carbs from fruits and veggies? 90 grams of carbs, if you

figure about 80 calaories per carb (ie. 15 grams), works out to around 500

calories per day. I'm guessing, but I think for a male, a count of somewhere in

the range of 1500-1800 calories per day is not over-eating. What foods do you

eat to make up for the 1000 plus calories based on my thinking? What would a

couple of daily meal plans look like for you? And, I don't recall you telling,

but may I suppose your weight is okay? Thanks.

you may be in the minority that lantus doesn't have a 24 hour effect. 90% of

people can get a 24 hour effect from lantus.

Most who cannot, split dose lantus... take, for example, 5 units at 8 PM and

then 5 units at 8 AM.

most endos start folks taking lantus at 8 pm since it helps the dawn

effect/preventing it. That is, assumeing you go to bed at a decent hour *grin*.

Lantus does not have a " peak " -unlike Lente or N. It is supposedly stable

for about 24 hours.

Re: carb types and calories

Okay. I wasn't tuned in then. I know the peak is supposed to be different

with Lantus, but it isn't the 24 hour insulin I was told originally by my

endo, and I am pretty sure I did try it when he first put me on it in the

evenings. I do know people take it other times, and why is that?

there are some diabetics who don't experience the benefits of lantus.

but, with that said, it is such a small minority that it almost isn't even worth

bringing up.

The only thing that has been proven, in some diabetics, is it doesn't last 24

hours and some have to split dose it. But, that percentage is so small it is

amazing.

It really is a great invention!

I thought there were some findings a while back that indicated Lantus wasn't

living up to it's billing. Actually, I should clarify what I am saying. The

Lantus is indeed probably still working for close to the 24 hour period, but I

think it has a peak and in the last 6 hours or so is much less potent. I

suppose I could stand to be re-educated about basil/background insulin, and

specifically the issues concerning too much or too llittle.

Okay & Dave,

Well, one of the reasons I am the way I am is because I spent a good 28
