Nutrition cuts seen; resources to protect your job

Across the nation, ADA members working in state agencies this week reported that

they anticipate state budget cuts for nutrition services, including food

assistance programs. Now is the time for dietitians concerned about state

spending cuts to monitor the situation in their capitals and advocate for

preserving food, nutrition and health programs.

where you can search a database by state and issue to find what bills are

pending that might affect your business or professional life.

To identify your state representative and state senators, you can go to ADA’s

website at www.eatright.org, log in as a member, and then click the “Advocacy

and the Profession” tab at the top. From there, click on “Grassroots Manager”

located in the upper left quadrant. Be sure to scroll to state officials – not

federal.

In general your message needs to communicate that nutrition and food assistance

program budgets should not be cut in an effort to save money. Many have proven

long-term benefits that far exceed any budget savings that might last for just

one year
