Guest guest
Hello group, Regarding recent discussion about post-op neck instability, while researching my followup paper I came across an article describing the problem and I touch on this problem briefly: " Certainly other studies have reported less than complete success with the classic posterior fossa decompression. Aronson and Kahn reported that 19 out of 20 patients in whom a sub-occipital craniectomy and laminectomy (for treatment of ACM) had been done had significant instability of the cervical spine. " (AronsonD.D., Kahn R.H., et al, American Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Jul 1991:73(6) 898-906 " There are other articles that touch upon this briefly as well. Hopefully this summer we will get the follow-up article onto the webpage. I am working on putting together a study that looks at the development of cervical instability or basilar impression after laminectomy for chiari...there seems to be a lot of this so-called secondary skull base instability developing within a few years of laminectomy. My chiari problems ended up developing into neck stability problems and I often wonder just how many others have this problem. Just thinking out loud Darlene Long
