Pilot program will give 25 kids with autism intensive services

Starting this month, a new government-funded program will provide intensive therapy and other services to young children with autism.Although the program will serve about 25 children -- a fraction of the more than 15,000 people statewide who have been diagnosed with some form of autism -- officials say it could have a dramatic effect on those kids and their families."Research really shows that birth to 5 is the age where most gains are made," said Ponce, director of communication for the state Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, which will oversee the program.
