Use of rapid saliva test for HIV by truck drivers

I was happy reading that an awareness campaign is in road " Surakshit yathra "

for the truck drivers in association with driving schools in Vijayavada. The

AAUI is collaborating with ILO for this project.

But at the same time am astonished; rather afraid to hear that they are giving

kits to these drivers to test HIV at home using saliva samples!!! and they wil

get results in 20 minutes. But, is it a reliable test????. I fear its not at

all..

Think of the situation that the drivers believe that they are

not positive even though the have symptoms (which they fearfully

realize are part of hiv, because of which they got tested with saliva in kit!!!)

that will cause more harm.
