Most of these patients are on minimal fluids so we go with what the MD wants. If

on TF then we're using 1.2 or 1.5 cal/oz product (or 1.8 cal/oz if renal

failure). If TPN then typically it's min fluid/volume or based on the IV fluid

rate when the PharmD writes the TPN.  I'm not ASPEN member so I don't have the

recommendations on fluid.

But from a clinical judgement, fat tissue is not something we need to " hydrate "

so I would use Adj DBW as well (if the fluid decision was in my court).

We're following ASPEN guidelines. >120% (and only adjusting for protein needs -

using acutal weight for Mifflin or Penn State equations).

Subject: Using adjusted weights for 115% standard weight??

Hello all,

We just noticed a recommedation in the ADA Nutrition Care Manual to use adjusted

body weight

to calculate energy needs for all those 115% of standard weight.

OK, I'm old school - are we RD's doing this?

.... and what is standard weight - the new term for ideal weight???

Thanks in advance for catching an old gal up!!!
