Guest guest
My personal experience with flagyl is not pleasant. Though maybe I am not typical. I had to stop it after three days as I felt so nauseous, and my mouth dried up, got dry eyes and my tongue went yellow and deeply furred. I felt generally v unwell. the Doc said theses are " expected side effects " ..No way could I have done 4 weeks! Fortunately the 4 days did the trick out of the weeks course prescribed. It is typically given for much less than 4 weeks, too, so the potential for extreme ickyness or even real problems is not trivial. I think I'd try other stuff first. BTW, from what I hear the drug tinidazole is as good as metronidazole at clearing things but is much more pleasant to take. Unfortunately it isn't FDA approved so it has to be gotten from Mexico. Guest guest
I was wondering whether any folk have had good or bad experiences with using Flagyl. My 5 year old tested positive for the blastocystis huminis parasite in his stool and my doctor thinks it warrants eradication and control with 4 weeks of Flagyl, followed by artemesia with probiotics being provided through the course of treatment. There does not seem to be agreement that this parasite, by itself, is a pathogen. However, the Great Smokies literature inclines to treating it as a pathgogen, particularly if there are symptoms. My little guy has had infrequent abdominal pain, a lot of bowel movements (not diarrhoea) and what the lab calls " moderate faecal loading " (by way of X-ray) which I take to mean a degree of constipation. We are treating the constipation with drops of Coloxyl. I am chelating him with DMSA and ALA and I suspect the passage of toxic metals (I believe he is poisoned with lead, mercury and possibly arsenic) through the bowel are causing the parasite problem. I note from the Amy Holmes list that she seems to prescribe Flagyl, although the children taking this also seem to have evidence of problems other than blastocystis eg candida and clostridia. Would anyone advise for and aginst the use of Flagyl?
Guest guest
" Moderate fecal loading " suggests using supplements that increase bowel motility. Perhaps Moria would be willing to list the ingredients of " Dr. Schultz formula #1, " or anyone else could list ingredients of things intended to do this. Guest guest
--- My son had these parasites also, he took the Flagyl, and then Uva- Ursi for awhile...and continue to this day with probiotics. I did not notice any adverse reactions at all. Guest guest
My son had terrible regression from Flagyl, so I was afraid and stopped it after 3 days. I was so happy when he came back to normal after that. We tried Humatin for 2 weeks later, he was feeling very well, and blastocystis were very happy too, so in the following stool test we had got them and also Klebsiella and Pseudomonas which we did not have before... When we visited Dr.Amy Holmes in the end of April, she told us that she was going to get some very effective treatment for blastocystis in about 3 months (the treatment is under development now).
