Guest guest
I am telling my story because I believe that the cornstarch has messed up my immune system and this is how I got LS, as I believe LS is a disease of the auto immune system. For years I have been a corn starch eater. . .yes, I can admit that I have PICA. I believe this is what caused me to have Lichen Sclerosis. Looking back, I never thought nothing was wrong with eating cornstarch. You see my mother was a cornstarch eater for years, she ate the ARGO Laundry Starch that came in chunks. As a child we used to sneak and eat a few pieces when she put her box down. Anyway. . .after a while when I could not find the ARGO Laundry Starch (they stopped selling it for a while in my neighborhood) I started eating the ARGO Corn Starch that you cook with. This had a strange sweet taste and I loved the very dry taste in my mouth. At first I would only eat a very small amount like a teaspoon but without realizing it I graduated to using a tablespoon and instead of once a day I went up to about a cup a day. It had gotten so bad that my husband caught me. So I started buying a box a day and sucking it through a straw on the drive home from work that way I could eat as much as I wanted before I got home. . .I mean I would literally sit in the car with the starch in a bag and suck it through the straw as I drove home. I started noticing a discharge, heavy itch and my entire vagina but to my anus had this funny shiny white look about it.. The doctor told me the white spots were from vitiligo and he started treating me for reoccurring yeast infection which turned out to be a really bad flare up of LS. Finally, I came to realize that once I stopped eating the cornstarch the discharge would stop and the itching was no longer there. However, I was unfortunately hooked on the cornstarch and began eating it again. I am too embarrassed to tell the doctor about my cornstarch eating but I have learned through the internet that it can be due to anemia (which I have) so now I am being treated for that with a combination of iron pills and b12 complex. Yesterday I tried to each some cornstarch but " FORTUNATELY " I immediately felt as though I was going to throw up so hopefully, I will not feel the need to eat it again. Please feel free to email me directly if you want to respond to this e mail.
