Guest guest
We noticed that when our 3 year old with autism was put on antibiotics a few days ago,(ear infection), he began immediately to go through a moderate regression. He has difficulties finding words, cries all the time (as he used to do a year ago)instead of requesting what he wants, stims very often, shouts frequently, can not sleep well at night, has a lot of difficulty concentrating, is hyperactive (significantly more than usual), is more sensitive to touch, and some of his old phobias have returned. We hope when the course of antibiotics is finished on Tuesday, he goes back to being himself. Has anyone else noticed regression in their children with autism when they are taking antibiotics? Guest guest
My typical child goes through something (whether it's regression or what) when on antibiotics. He becomes belligerent, whiny, and has overnight developed a phobia of MOTHS and is now always asking if there's a moth on him (he's 6). And everytime he acts like strangely like this I say, "that's right! I forget that amoxicilian always brings out these OCD-ish behaviors". For him, it always goes away. He gets about 3 ear infections a year, it used to average 5. Guest guest
Ida - It might be either the dye used to make it pink or it could also have gluten in it. And if it's gluten, it's highly processed stuff. I hope he gets better soon. Guest guest
Ida, My daughter has been on her share of antibiotics (more than I have in my life time.) I don't recall having these experiences. Does your son pull at his ears now that he is on the antibiotic or have a slight fever? If so, the antibiotic he is on may not be strong enough and he may still be feeling the ear pain (and doesn't know how to tell you.) Does he have any stomach pains that you maybe aware of? Again, he may not be able to describe his discomfort. I would suggest going back to see the pediatrician to see if his ear infection has improved. With all the antibiotics my daughter has been on, I've learned that Amoxicillin is not the most effective for ear infections. They also have homeopathic ear drops for earache relief at Walgreens it is called Similasan. Good luck, Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.
