Guest guest
He everyone, After hearing everyone's stories of burning to the point of never using protopic again upon first usage I decided to try something. I mixed a very small amount of the .1% protopic with vaseline petrolem jelly. Vaseline is white petrolatum, the main constituent making up the base protopic is made with. I 'diluted' it for many reasons (not wanting the pain to be so intense that I couldn't go in to work or have it be too painful to continue, have a two week desenstizing to the cream that is tolerable rather than a 3 day intolerable burning, and to test it out a little for adverse reactions). The end result was that I only got a mild warm sensation. It didn't even compare to the burning I get on a normal day without any medication. The specifics of what I did: I squeezed out an amount almost 1.5mm in diameter by 4mm. I defined that as an amount that would be too small to spread over my affected area, maybe equal to the amount of lead you see in a sharpened pencil. Then I mixed that with some petroleum jelly, about 1cm x .5cm x 3mm, maybe equal to one and a half pencil erasers.. I figure that's proportions of about 1:10, maybe 1:8, making the protopic really a .01% rather than .1%, without doing that math. To mix it I used a mini-mini spatula and flat surface plate, but you can probably use anything. Soooo...I just wanted to pass that along for those of you who had to stop using protopic because of burning. Maybe you could try diluting it to whatever point it is bearable for you, then increase in concentration over time. FYI: I only started using it last night, so no results yet. Good luck! Guest guest
That sounds like something I would do. Guest guest
Sounds like a good Idea Shantalar to dilute the Protopic with vaseline or petroleum jelly. Let us know how it works, the only thing I can see is that it 'may' slow down the healing. But then........ I've also seen where it might possibly block the action as a shield against it's entering the tissue? Why some creams should be applied 'first' before a soothing emolient is put on, and I have seen that comment with certain medications, so who knows? But knowing how bad I was at the time..... whew... I'd have probably thought of the same thing. ; ) Let us know how it works, ; ) and good luck. Dee~; )
