Guest guest
at the point it said it was 43, you should have retested instead of eating the glucose tabs since you didn't feel 43. at any point you get a wacked reading, and you don't feel that way, retest prior to doing anything. if you tested a second time and it said 43 or there abouts, then eat the glucose. my hunch is the initial 43 was not correct and then you ate the glucose tabs and spiked. could have been not enough blood on the unit or something. Regards, bad results I am getting results from the acucheck that don't make any sense. I took 4 units of humalog this morning before a breakfast of Corn beef hash, and two slices of bread. I took my reading on the acucheck and it said my blood sugar was 43. But I felt fine. btw before eating breakfast my blood sugar was 165. any way I took a couple of glucose tablets as a precaution. and took my sugar again. This time the acucheck said it was 245. I don't think that two glucose tablets can raise your sugar 202 points. Any suggestions as to what is happening with the acucheck. after that wild spread, I tested in every possible and it said everything was normal. I sure would like to know what is happening. Guest guest
You are right. Two glucose tablets of the 4 grams of carbs per tablet is not likely to raise your glucose level over 200 points no matter who you are. I would seriously question the accuracy of your glucose monitor. bad results > > I am getting results from the acucheck that don't make any sense. > I took 4 units of humalog this morning before a breakfast of Corn beef > hash, and two slices of bread. Guest guest
I use the One Touch Ultra glucose monitor, and it gives me very accurate readings every time. The only problem I have with this monitor is that I am completely de;pendent upon my wife to do the glucose monitor readings, since it is not useable by a completely blind person. bad results > > >> >> I am getting results from the acucheck that don't make any sense. >> I took 4 units of humalog this morning before a breakfast of Corn beef >> hash, and two slices of bread. Guest guest
my wife takes my reading when she is home, but she has a full time job. So she is not available to take it after breakfast and after lunch. We pay a lot for the acucheck to find it is anything but accurate. But it gives dangerous readings also. 600 dollars for a faulty meter? I am surprised that Roche diagnostics can get away with selling it. Guest guest
Then if it is not enough blood, why doesn't it say so. That is another major defect in the acucheck. It doesn't beep, so you don't know you don't have enough blood. I am warned so often about low sugar, that when I get a message like that I automatically take precautions. because low sugar is much worse than high sugar. Guest guest
well, you know me dave... I am 100% all for the profile one touch... it has none of the weaknesses of the accucheck meter. Beeps loudly when enough blood is on the strip, tells you " not enough blood " if you don't have enough. They also have cut the amount of blood required in half 8 months ago by introducing new strips for the meter. I.E no longer needs a huge blop of blood. 70 to 107 is the range of 80 to 120 on the profile and you can have peace of mind using it! That you cannot claim using that voicemate! JMHO Regards, bad results > > > I am getting results from the acucheck that don't make any sense. > I took 4 units of humalog this morning before a breakfast of Corn beef > hash, and two slices of bread. Guest guest
One thing that needs to be done is a calabration...The meter came with solution that is to test the accuracy of the meter. You need to be checking it no less than every 3 months. The instructions will tell you how to calabrate your machine. If that is not possible then take it to the place you get your strips and have them check it out. I had a meter give me readings that were normal, but when my HA1C came back it was so high. Had the meter checked and it was faulty...called the company and ended up getting a new one. Just a thought, Tonya Daubenmire wrote: well, you know me dave... Guest guest
Tonia, I used the test solution and it was normal. Then I used the strip that tells you if anything is wrong with the unit. It was negative, nothing wrong. So if my wife was at home during the day, I would have never got the acucheck but she works. and is not available to take my sugar on the ultra scan except in the evening. I performed every check I could. Dave > One thing that needs to be done is a calabration...The meter came with > solution that is to test the accuracy of the meter. Guest guest
Nothing against accucheck voicemate, was just kidding around, but, I love my profile and running an a1c of 5.3 should certainly show it is a reliable unit no? *grin* Regards, bad results > > > I am getting results from the acucheck that don't make any sense. > I took 4 units of humalog this morning before a breakfast of Corn beef > hash, and two slices of bread. Guest guest
Dave, I think that with blood meters, that monotor errors are much more likely than Human errors. the steps are 1 stick finger, rub against the strip on the little notch. listen for 40 seconds to see if the acucheck says anything. if not pull out strip and re-insert and apply more blood in the same way. When you get wildly differing results, listen carefully to the cassette instructions sent by the company. You don't see anything that you are doing wrong. besides that, we took readings with both the one touch and the acucheck, and it varied any where from no points difference to up to 40 points difference. and I can assure my wife is very diligent about following instructions. And so am I. I learned to do that in 20 years of systems engineering. It is not a complicated thing to take a blood sample. but it is a complicated thing for me to use the acucheck. mainly because I can't understand what it is doing. I well know what it is not doing. And why do you think they are having to re-design the meter? They know the problems that it has, and that is the reason for the re-design. Just my opionions. Guest guest
lol your probably right. that is, assuming I get enough blood on it *grin* Regards, bad results > > > I am getting results from the acucheck that don't make any sense. > I took 4 units of humalog this morning before a breakfast of Corn beef > hash, and two slices of bread. Guest guest
Now slow down there. I have no reason to defend the Accucheck other than I have been using 2 meters for 6, 7, years or something like that, and have been entirely satisfied. I have nothing against the Life scan meters, other than the fact that their scale doesn't matchdirectly with the standard used by labs. But, it is not fair to bash the meter when it is perhaps not being used properly. The Comfort Strips are quite a unique product, and I think they are what make checking my bg as a blind person a good bit more tolerable, and my own observation in comparing the Accuchck and One Touch meters I used for many years is that the Comfort Strips are much more forgiving. Don't go and talk down the meter until you are absolutely positive it is not a human error problem. Guest guest
I have utter confidence in the readings I get from the Voicemate/Accucheck. I get lab work done 3 or 4 times a year, and compare my bg test result with the lab result, and the Accucheck has been consistently in agreement. This was not the case with the One Touch meters years ago. , do you compare your lab result with your Profile reading at the time they draw blood?
