Guest guest
Hi Trixxi I think there are MAOIs now that dont require strict dietary controls. However, often docs still dont like prescribing them - my doc pretends that they dont exist, but I of course, know that they do! There are also " atypical " ADs like Serzone. Serzone is the only AD that ever made me horny rather than limpd***ed - not for the sex addict that one. Not if they want to stop being addicted, anyway. Guest guest
Thanks Trixxie. I haven't ruled out other alternative medicines. I just know I want off prozac & lithium. They just aren't working. I tried St. 's Wart a ways back and really liked the benefits. I felt like I could get things done for the first time since I was a kid. Unfortunately, on SJW, I could never sleep. I had too much energy. Ah, the joys of being screwed up!! There's just no easy answer. How I wish I was just normal and had a family that wasn't nutty. That's probably 7 out of 10 people's wish though. Not sure how it works or why, just know it does. I was on Prozac for years and was jumping out of my skin and had to take Trazadone to sleep. Then Zoloft and shortly, Effexor which landed me in the hospital after weeks of not sleeping. Then Remeron and can't say I'm dancing for joy but it keeps things pretty level. Don't think I could have handled school, the divorce, etc. without it. Anyway Matt, you may want to ask your doctor about it. Beats white knuckling depression. Please be careful. Guest guest
Thank you Kathy. I too had to take trazadone to sleep when I was on paxil. I wouldn't get to sleep until 5 am, and then I couldn't wake up for work. On the prozac, I've just felt totally out of it, 24/7. I just want to get back to feeling like myself. Unfortunately, my usual self is sad a great deal of the time. I just don't recognize myself on these meds. Nothing feels right. I think if I had some stability in my life I could handle the changes the meds are putting me through. If I wasn't trying to learn a new job, trying to pay for bills and food, if I had any kind of solid relationship with my family maybe. But I worry when I would rather kill myself than go to work. That scares me. I worry when my only desire is to give two weeks notice and quit even though I don't have another job lined up. I don't have a safety net. I dont' have parents to move back home with if I fall flat on my face. My survival is up to me. For me, taking pills that totally alter my life view are just too risky. It makes sense in my head. Maybe if I was in a different situation right now I could take 3 months to get used to the meds. Thanks again. Guest guest
People are so different. Remeron didn't do a thing for me, but Effexor is great, and while my doctor keeps warning me about the inability to sleep, this has not been a problem for me at all. Never did have Prozac. If people react so differently to meds, why can't the AA folks admit that people will react differently to the program? Have you ever seen anyone blamed because they took a particular pill and it didn't do the job? Yet intelligent and educated people are still blaming ex-AA members who felt it wasn't for them. --- Kayleigh Zz zZ |\ z _,,,---,,_ /,`.-'`' _ ;-;;,_ |,4- ) )-,_..;\ ( `'-' '---''(_/--' `-'\_) >In a message dated 11/8/99 1:37:21 AM Pacific Standard Time, >mdprat@... writes: > ><< hanks Trixxie. When in the hospital I beg them not to use it as a pain med because I can't sleep at all and when in pain that's what I do best, sleep. I had a horse once that was given ace promezine to tranquilize for a long trip and he got wired. A cat did the same thing. So like you were saying, we are all wired so differently. Guest guest
In a mild defence of Phyllis. If a diabetic is very uptight and stressed out would it not be prudent to put them on antidepressants just to help get their BGs down. Obviously not ALL diabetics are depressed but, a lot are and are on no medication to help this condition. In my opinion (and it is only mine) putting a lot of diabetics on antidepressants would be helpful for their sugar levels. I think Phyllis is on the right trail in some ways but I don't think it's necessary for everyone with this disease. Sorry but I feel poor Phyllis is getting a bit of a raw deal. Guest guest
, God Bless on your journey. A word of caution...with the finely tuned " cocktail " of medications you are taking, please work with a Dr. to wean off them. My daughter started weaning herself off a similar mix for a similar problem, and upset the balance of drugs to the point we almost needed to hospitalize her. I am not trying to discourage you from comming off, I too feel it important to try and get of as soon as possible. I just know from experience what doing it without a Dr.'s supervision can do to your system. Please be careful.
