Guest guest
Is beta-carotene a good form of vitamin A for adults? children? If it was my kid I would give him 200,000 IU of A the first day, 100,000 IU for the next 4 or 5 days, then 25,000 IU a day from then on. I have done this for kids, and when I get sick I usually take half a million to a million IU of A the first day, and a quarter million or so per day for the rest of the week. Since I'm a guy I don't have to worry that I will accidentally get pregnant - the only reason to limit vitamin A intake to 10,000 IU per day is that it can be harmful to fetuses, so women who are or might become pregnant should not use this approach. Children, men, and women who aren't of child bearing age or who have absolute certainty they will not become pregnant may find it quite helpful. It is extremely good at modulating the immune system to get rid of viral infections. It is especially helpful at correcting the immune imbalances that mercury often causes. Guest guest
I think elderberry extract is a great thing, but as measles can be dangerous for brain he has to go to hospital and be treated for measles with something stronger. I do not know how it is treated (transfer factor?), but with this diagnosis they should find something. Guest guest
Yes. It will help a lot. Get a good brand like Sambucol liquid (which tastes good) and use a tablespoon or two per day in divided doses. It is GOOOD stuff and he will WANT to have it. Also if you can find elderberry jam, use that. Also find a good brand of echinacea and start him on that. The elderberry has a more immediate effect (it is directly antiviral) and the echinacea comes on strong in a few days and really solves things (it is indirectly antiviral in that it builds up the body's NK cells which go after viruses). Guest guest
Except if you are allergic to elderberries! Sorry, I am in allergy mode lately. What ever happened to a protocol that was supposedly being developed by a workgroup led by Dr. Wakefield (or at least I think he was leading the group as I remember his e-mail message) to diagnose and treat Measles in the GI tract? Does anyone have any info on this? [ ] Re: Measles and elderberry extract. Yes. It will help a lot. Guest guest
Yikes! Run from this doctor. Forget the Tylenol and Benedryl. How about a virology work up to see what it is? Idiot pediatricians... Guest guest
> Is beta-carotene a good form of vitamin A for adults? children? No. Beta carotene is NOT vitamin A. In small amounts, the body does convert some to vitamin A. If you need large amounts of vitamin A, beta carotene won't provide them no matter how much you take. When I refer to vitamin A I mean retinol and retinoic acid, which ARE vitamin A, not beta carotene. Carotenes have other properties that make them not interchangeable with vitamin A for most of the purposes we discuss them in relation to on this list. Andy . . .. . . . . Guest guest
I told my friend what you all had suggested. She ended up giving her son 10,000 IU of vitamin A yesterday, along with elderberry extract and today the rash is all gone! Thanks for the help. Guest guest
Please tell her to continue vitamin A for at least ten days, and possibly longer, as viruses can deplete vitamin A stores in the liver for up to three months, leaving the door wise open for the next infection.
