At a local compounding pharmacy (NH) I was going to purchase 10mg of

DMSA 45 capsules for a whopping $62.10. needless to say I will be my

own compounding pharmacy.... Insurance wouldn't touch it. -Donna

Subject: Fwd: Re: request for price of Rx DMSA

I called rite-aid (payless drugs), and another local drug company. The

prices for MY Rx of Chemet (DMSA succimer) were $487.09 at rite-aid, and

462.65 at a more local drug store called the Medicine Chest. This was for

100 capsules of " Rx only " , Chemet, at 100 mg. per capsule. Gee it seems

a little high to me, as compared to VRP for DMSA (succimer), at

1-800-877-2447. Maybe the drug companies are conducting business in

Russian and Rubles, not Dollars and sense? The information is real the

sarcasm is all mine. If the sarcasm and the questions for real truthfull

information offends you do not take the real information. Hoping that

epidemic of healthy happy people breaks out, and is uncontrolable.

I'd like to add that Chemet is not a capsule, it is a hard white tablet that

must be crushed for kids who can't swallow pills, only comes in 100mg size,

and yes, it runs almost $5 a pill. The compounding pharmacy does it up at

much better rates without any fillers or dyes in a capsule, and makes it in

just the dose needed, e.g. I just got 50/250 caps for a client for $127.

However, it may be harder to get insurance to pay for compounding; each

parent has to have the pharmacist check to see if their insurance will pay

(many do). I don't think insurance can refuse to pay for Chemet, which is

in the " sacred " formulary. Parents may have to do a little scouting to find

a good rate at a pharmacy and check out their insurance coverage also so

they can tell their doc about it, who can then just call it in. Many of

them do not know about the compounding pharmacies. Jaquelyn

Did the formulation change in the last few months? All the chemet I

ever saw was beads in a white capsule that wasn't sealed so it was

easy to pull apart and pour out however much you needed.

Many people have gotten good prices from Brock at the Falls Pharmacy

in Snoqualmie here. getit@... . He also will

compound DMSA and ALA in the same capsule for you.

We get the Chemet as a capsule from the pharmacy, but VRP stuff comes as a

tablet.
