Guest guest
HI Kathy & all, ; ) You've asked a question hon, I've asked myself for years and keep forgetting to ask some one professional, it's what is or where is the HARTS LINE on the vulva??? I have seen that referred to hundreds of times as well as in Dr. 's article and I just cannot pin point where it is. Grrrrr I just now looked through all my reference books, dictionary's, all my thousands of articles (on the search area in Outlook) and NADA..... just nowhere can I find a definition. The term will be used, but not explained. Frustrates the daylights out of me too,*chuckle* I used to think it was the area where the smaller and larger lips connect on the side towards the larger labial lips, in that valley that looks like a seam line?... but I'm not sure.. or maybe its the dead center line at the base of the vestibule which we call the 6 o'clock area or the fourchette? If you or anyone ever finds out, I'd sure love to know myself. Smile* Anyway I was in the middle of sending these 2 pictures out to someone and thought maybe the 'newbies' might appreciate these with the correct anatomical names for the vulvar area, plus there is text explaining things. : ) but NO harts line. LOL hugs Dee~ This 2nd one below I like because it does show the remains of the HYMEN which so many think is gone once we're not virgins, I mean technically it is, but all that tissue around the opening is really the remains of it. VULVAR ANATOMY A: Prepuce (Hood) of Clitoris B: Clitoris C: Opening of Urethra (urinary tract) D: Labia minora E: Labia majora F: Opening of Vagina G: Vestibule H: Hyman tissue (residual) I: Opening of Anus The most obvious feature on an adult woman is the pubic hair. It grows from the soft tissue above the pubic bone and is called the mons veneris or pubis. (Latin for "mountain of venus"). In mature unshaven women, the pubic hair continues down and around the vulva to the anus. The anus is the opening of the rectum and colon. The hair covered area between the mons and the anus is also made of soft fatty tissue (like the mons). This is the outer lips of the vagina, or labia majora (Latin for major lips). The labia majora are prominent in some women and minimal in others. For some, the skin of these outer lips is darker. The outer lips (labia majora) surround some soft flaps of skin which are hairless. These inner lips are called the labia minora (Latin for minor lips). With sexual stimulation, they swell and turn darker as they get filled with blood. The space between the inner lips and the anus or rectal area is called the perineum. If the inner lips are spread apart (as seen in the picture), one can see that they protect a delicate area between them. This area is called the vestibule. At the top of the vestibule, right below the mons area, the inner lips are joined to form a soft fold of skin, or hood, that covers the clitoris. The clitoris (pronounced KLIT-or-iss [no, it doesn't rhyme with Dolores]) is the most sensitive spot in the entire genital area. It is made up of erectile tissue that swells during sexual arousal. Below the clitoris is a small slit called the urethra opening. The urethra is a thin tube about an inch and a half long that connects to the bladder. This is where we urinate from. Below the urethra opening is the larger opening of the vagina (also called the introitus). The vagina is the birth canal, and connects the outside world of the vulva to the womb (or uterus) ..
