Guest guest
Our children's hospital participated in this study, although we did not. Apparently Genetech is one of their suppliers. I thought it was great until I spoke with some of the families that participated in the study. They hated it! Or should I say the kids hated it. Apparently the injection was a larger amount and a thicker liquid. It was far more painful than the small injections given on a daily basis. There was a significant increase in local reaction at the injection site, according to the families that I spoke with. Some were extremely painful for hours even a day or so afterward. I know of at least one family, possibly two, that refused to continue to participate and asked to be put back on the daily injections. Please keep in mind that this is only a small percentage of people, so take it with a grain of salt. But before you agree to switch over, make sure you get the parent's perspective, not just the drug company's or the doc's. Jeannine

Guest guest
I'm still pretty hopeful about it and willing to give it a try for a month or so if our endocrinologist agrees. We won't see him for a month or so though. For all I know he won't be for it either. In 's case he did well with accepting the daily shots until his 2nd birthday. After that it was like a light went on and he decided, 'hey, I don't have to take this and be nice about it. " giving the shot is a major ordeal these days. I would love to not have to do this everyday at least until he is older and less stressed about it all. Do you know if the families tried using emla cream before giving the shot? One positive in many situations is I would think it would increase compliance. Something is only good if you use it as our ped always says and daily shots are something many families I have spoken to forget at least once a week. Thanks for the input Jeannine. It's always good to hear parental input on these things in addition to what the research says. Anne ---------- > > Our children's hospital participated in this study, although we did > not.
