Guest guest
I'd seen discussions about reactions to antibiotics and other drugs. Was talking to CVS pharmacist about drug interactions with Tikosyn. Seems they have a lot more info than we have on what drugs to avoid. I have to have a colonoscopy and knew I'd had arrhythmias develop with mild laxatives and with augmentin, so I called CVS pharmacist to talk about phospho-soda that I have to take and not be taking coumadin at the time. Pharmacist on laxatives: Any cleansing laxative is going to decrease potassium and calcium and increase sodium and phasphate levels which is what can cause an arrhythmia. Pharmacist on Antibiotics: A lot of antibiotics have an acid (didn't catch the name of it) that destroys good flora in bowels and can lead to diarrhea which leads to arrhythmias. Antibiotics NOT recommended: - neuroxin, levoquin, cipro (cipro is the least harmful of that family and I've taken it with no problems) - augmentin - Z-pak (zithromax) (I love this antibiotic cause it helps me so much when I have a cold and bronchitis :-( - Best antibiotic to use is ampicillin So, I have a call into TIKOSYN line to find out WHY we, as patients, are NOT aware of these interactions. The list of drugs in their pamphlets is minor and mostly drugs that most of us would not take anyway! We deserve more information!!
