Guest guest
Montana, I just can't imagine that you would be negetivly effected by Splenda. I have not heard of anyone who has had a problem with it. I am sure that someone, somewhere has experienced difficulties but I have not run across any information o it. A friend of mine sent me an article about a year ago on Splenda but I did not get around to reading it and I can not now find it. My friend has not gotten back to me with any new information. I am working on the problem though. I believe that you can purchase a very small amount of Splenda from the grocery store. It should be enough to give you a good shot at determining if you have any bummed out feeling from it. Dad... Re: blood sugar tests NO I am worried how I will be effected by it. Not what it has in it. Some of the other sweeteners make me feel so lousy I hate to buy something then can't use it. so that was what I was talking about. Thanks for letting me know about this though. --Dar --Every Saint has a Past, Every Sinner has a Future blood sugar tests > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > How did you folks learn how to take your blood sugar. Guest guest
Oh good, I will try it count on it. Again if I remember what you shared one time with me was one cup splinda to one cup sugar when baking something like that. I hope that is rite. then the rest of the recipe stays the same. --Dar --Every Saint has a Past, Every Sinner has a Future blood sugar tests > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > How did you folks learn how to take your blood sugar. Guest guest
Montana, No, it is 1/4 cup of sugar for each 3/4 cup of Splenda. This seems to be important in anything which you want to thicken such as a pudding or pie. My cousin made a berry pie and had a horriffic time getting the thing to set up. Dad... Guest guest
Yes, I occasionally bake. Not too much anymore as my children are grown and my husband and I do not need any sweets! Ihave successfully made breads, pies and once cookies with Splenda. They do recommend that if your recipe calls for brown sugar, do not substitute that with Splenda and some people prefer to bake with a mixture of Splenda and regular sugar-half and half, but I just used all splenda with about a tablespoon of honey, sot he item would brown. Really cuts down n the calories. With pumpkin pie, I did not even use the honey; just Splenda and no one knew the difference. I don't know about fig Newtons-the " light " might mean it is lighter in fat content. You will have to have someone at the store read the carb count to you. Re: blood sugar tests Wow that is a long time and I am so glad you are here to talk about it. I am concerned about splenda. So far sweet and low doesn't bother me, and I would hate to buy something and then find out it does bother me. So how do you bake or do you? Also I am wondering about the cookie called fig Newton's. I know they have one out there that is a light. --Dar --Every Saint has a Past, Every Sinner has a Future blood sugar tests > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > How did you folks learn how to take your blood sugar. Guest guest
Splenda is made from sugar. It is not made from chemicals like other sweetners. You can look it up on " splenda.com " Re: blood sugar tests NO I am worried how I will be effected by it. Not what it has in it. Guest guest
Yes, Dar. Spenda and sugar measure equally. The only thing is that if you are making anything with baking powder in it and using Splenda, put in an extra half teaspoon of baking soda or powder. If you are making a cake, put in 1/2 cup of powdered milk to add the bulk that spenda does not give. Re: blood sugar tests Oh good, I will try it count on it. Guest guest
Hi all, Splenda also does make a " baking mix " . I believe it is the same thing as mixing the 1/4 cup of sugar for each 3/4 cup of splenda you need. Seems to work out okay. Cy, the Ancient Okie... Guest guest
Montana, The " baking mix " is the Splenda sugar substitute with the real sugar added in the correct proportions so that you can make a one for one substitute for regular sugar in your recipes.
