Guest guest
Hi Alan, I went thru the same dilemna as you are going thru about drinking so I wrote Dr. Peele. He replied that I was really brainwashed by AA. That fear of going off the deep end with alcohol was implanted by AA. So I figure as long as a part of you believes that then you are in danger of living out AA's prophecy. Dr. Peele also said that if you find you cannot control your drinking then go to abstaining. AA used to say we might never return to sobriety if we took that plunge, I now know that is just another AA lie, there is no reason why you couldn't go back to abstinance if you choose to. Also Dr. Peele said you have to change your behaviour towards drinking, which AA never taught you (they just teach abstinance). This is the hard part, why you over drink, learning to set limits and on and on. Check out his FAQ list, you will find my question. Anyway after almost twenty years of sobriety about half of those in AA I decided to drink again. No problems for me anyway and it's been about eight months. Funny thing about it is I did not start up where I left off, I now have a very low tolerance, a glass and a half of wine is my limit. I drink about three times a month. But I have read that people who spent a long time in AA are less successful at moderating then those who never went to AA. That brainwashing is pretty powerful. I do think drinking makes your life a little more complicated, anyway hope this helped.
