Guest guest
Just a quick note to let everyone know I'm back and doing well. I went in for my surgery (sub occipital craniotomy, C-1,C2 Laminectomy) on Wed the 21st and came home today. ICU Thurs and Fri and into a step down unit Fri night and home today. I was able to wash my hair today which was an issue for me. I had a few minor complications that were resolved fairly quickly. First of all when I came out of surgery and discovered that great little pain medication button- I thought it was great but apparently my body doesn't like Morphine and I proceeded to vomit, which made my head hurt so I clicked away. Then I started vomiting blood. They sent me for and endiscopy and discovered a tear in the esophaogus. Once they decided that the vomiting was a result of a sensitivity to Morphine and took me off, everything settled down. I'm on a special diet and medication for the tear but that should resolve itself. Staples, lots of them, all come out this Friday. The other problem is one I believe I share with Chip. The had an awful time keeping my sats up, couldn't keep me above 75% while sleeping without supplemental O2. I also think this had a lot to do with the Morphine. I have never desated in the sleep lab although they did see period of apneic episodes. Great news too! I previously have been a HEAVY snorer (you can hear me across the house) but my husband tells me I don't snore now at all!! Great!! I have very little appetite still and need to just take it easy, I overdid a bit today what with being so glad to be home and all. I took a 4 hour nap this afternoon, my husband says he tried to wake me several times but I was out like a light. My little boy ( age 7) insisted on coming home today because I NEED him to take care of me. So sweet, he won't let me get a soda for myself. I'm headed for bed, but I wanted to keep in touch. I guess the bottom line for everyone still thinking over the surgery is this--it wasn't all that bad, I'd do it again, knowing what I know now.
